Canada Coalition.. now with Extra Dion!
Didn't Canadians soundly reject Dion and all he stood for?
I've been thinking about this, and it's really impossible to say who was making what point at the ballot box. All parties lost votes compared to 2006, except the Green party. The election was more about who lost fewer votes than the rest.
Almost a million fewer people voted in 08 than in 06.
The Conservatives lost 167000 votes
the Liberals lost 846000 votes
the NDP lost 74000 votes
the Bloc lost 174000 votes
the Green gained 274000 votes
So while the Liberals lost a lot, they didn't exactly flock to the Conservatives. So the question is why did the Liberal voters not vote Liberal again? Green shift? Indeciciveness?
In the end it doesn't really matter. They sent enough of them there to stop Harper from doing whatever he wanted. Harper tried to do too much of the wrong thing too fast and it's the opposition's right to remove confidence. He's going down. If the coalition fails, there will be a vote - I can't see how the GG would allow the Conservatives a second kick at the can.
Whenever we come to vote again, people will have more things to consider, and the opportunity to render judgement on the actions of the MPs. There will be another vote, democracy isn't dead no matter how much you bleat about it.
