$1:
CO2 is not a problem, global warming is natural. Dions focus on trying to usurp nature shows how far out of touch he is with reality.

Yes it's imperative to find alternative power sources but Dions plan is nothing more than a tax grab. There never has and never will be a revenue neutral tax plan.

World demand for fossil fuels will continue to rise along with the costs and Dion wants to add a tax , foolish at best and at worst it sounds more like NDP lunacy.

Your gaping chest wound is about the size of a pimple on a fleas ass.

Well, just forgetting your obvious scientific ignorance for a minute, how is doing nothing going to reduce fuel costs in the long term? It isn't.

You admit that world demand will continue to rise. That means prices will continue to skyrocket. So how is that going to save anybody money? It isn't. It's going to cost more.

So exactly how much carbon will this remove?
So exactly what will this do?

This is just the same as the promised national day care program the Liberals had been promising for the last 3 majorities.

You guys couldn't get the name right, let alone the plan. Hell, their still making it up.

Oh for fuck's sakes its TWO CENTS over FOUR YEARS.
The oil companies are going to steal it anyways. If it was two cents all at once, they drop the price for maybe one day, then hike it five. Like they did the last two GST cuts where the consumer saw nothing at all from the cut.
In return, he gives up $600 million of Canada's share from the diesel sales, does dick shit towards the environment and continues to fool the same dupes who support him most!
I would qualify the UNTHINKING remark... everything they promote is steered towards the SHALLOWEST thinking (ie: It's a tax on everything, therefore our plan is a savings on everything)

Oh sorry, you obviously follow the AGW crowd, I was was assuming that you knew something I did not.

So you admit Dions plan will do nothing to offset world demand, and hence associated costs?

There's going to be a bit of a shortage of nat. gas in Alberta the next few years folks, get ready to pay through the nose or start welding up a new used oil or a coal burner.

Dude, the energy companies are retrieving more gas now due to the newer technology in Alberta and there is many rigs sitting.Be prepared to pay more and yes, blame the oil and gas companies but there only trying to turn a profit so your retirement package pays more for you.

Apparently I do know something you don't...that scientists are smarter than Conservatives.

It will reduce domestic demand by encouraging the use of cleaner technologies. Those technologies will cost us less than the 19th century technology of burning fossil fuels. They will also provide economic opportunities and a more balanced economy.

Remember that the Liberals are not socialists and they believe in the power of the market. Since they believe this, they think that putting a price on carbon is the only way to let the market 'work'. Businesses that don't reduce GHG emissions will have higher costs which they must pass on to the consumer. The consumer then chooses which products and services to buy. If there is a tax on carbon then the consumer will naturally want to choose the greener and cheaper product.

You are correct, and I ain't sweating the part out about the oil companies (Dad was an oil comp. VP and I'm the only son... I'm talking a lot of shares). I'm also a contractor so my gas is a write-off.
Line 2 is important, I'm against giving up the part collected as a tax! Harper taking off two cents means as little as Campbell or Dion adding a couple cents.
Look at it this way, last time oil was $105 bbl we paid 99c/L, now we're paying $1.40 and it isn't because of taxes. Four years from now you'll be paying $3 - $5/L for diesel and nobody will notice a couple cents cut, or couple cents extra carbon tax except the gov't who needs it to run the country.

Market forces are gonna drive people off oil anyway, and make sure those still hooked cover every cent of increasing shareholder returns!
