Which would be the purpose of the media, wouldn't it? Generating enough buzz to get/maintain viewer share or papers sold, it's a business after all. Everyone knows that. Hyperbole seems to currently rule the day in the media.

The News is not a 'specialist' venue and we civvies know that IED's are used by them thar terrrrrrists. It still stands as irresponsible to start calling them anything other than what we know them as.
We know them as IED's too. Specialized or new terms are always entering the public consciousness, this is no different. The claim that it's irresponsible is over the top I think. Sensationalist? Probably, but not irresponsible.
