What, I can't have a little fun and pretend the one's the other to make a point? A person who doesn't believe in a given stereotype can still tell a joke about that stereotype because there's some humour in it. And you're right, I've told many myself, even one or two on this site. There's no humor at all in what he said. So why say it?

Maybe the context explains it, but there's just no hint in the words quoted to suggest he's anything but serious. "Faggots" is an off-colour comment. "Homosexual faggots with dirt under their fingernails that transmit diseases" is a hate-filled diatribe.

personally i think this latest smear campaign by the ndp/liberals / media . is rather disgusting .
mean both these 2 men have had otherwise clean and successful political carrers , the one is even the premier of saskatchewan . the other is a sucessful mp/ parliamentary secretary . both have never got in trouble for ahything inapproaite during there political carrers that i know of.

yet its approaite for the ndp to destroy there political carrers over a 16 year old video tape of them acting silly .

Please. During / immediately before an election campaign would be suspect. Who knows when that's going to be federally? It could have been in the fall, It could be next month, it could be October 19, 2009 (And at the rate we're going, it probably will). Everyone knows in Sask, provincially, it's going to be a long time from now because they just had one. They also didn't release it just before the byelection, in which a Sask seat was up for grabs. What nefarious end do you see them trying to accomplish? Personally, I see this as a relatively calm period with respect to the damage it can do.

The fact remains that we have a tape on which a current MP says some disgusting things. The only relevant questions are whether or not he sincerely believed them then and if he's changed his opinion since. Their age is irrelevant. The timing of the release is questionable only in so far as to wonder why they didn't try to score points in the byelection.

You're clutching at staws and making apologies and excuses for a disgusting comment.

Yes, I think they should do the exact same thing as the Liberals have....ask the person to step down, then 6 months after an election re-appoint them to some sort of patronage position like the senate.

i think there has to be a limit to what is considered relavent . mean after 10 years are silly comments still worthly of prime time on tv ?

mean if he had said this during a serious interview , sure but he has not done anything wrong during his political carrer.
harper picked him as a parliamentary secretary because he is an outstanding politician . he has not done anythign wrong during his time in ottawa that i know of.
