This is all I heard about all day 0n the radio today while on the road!!!! Doesn't the government have more important things to focus on??

Sheesh. My father put me behind the wheel of a half ton (standard) and taught me to drive around 13 yrs old. He was a cop!!! Took me out of town to some gravel roads as well. Best training I ever got.

Idiot NDP's!

People really understand the law was made to protect people (cities, highways, busy roads, etc...) If your out on a lonely country road carefully being taught by a parent a little earlier, that's a good thing. Careful of the odd roaming cow though!

hurley_108 hurley_108:
But if this guy just wanted to let his daughter start to learn to drive a passenger car a little earlier than usual, then he can do it on his private property in his driveway (In the country I presume he has a pretty long one), or suck it up and wait until she's old enough and gets a learner's or however it works in Sask. Living in the country does not give you immunity to the laws of city folk. If you want an exemption, then write one into the law.

Unjust law. That's rich.

Yeah because learning to drive on a driveway is just the best thing to do eh? *Ok daugther, use drive to go up and reverse to go down and then park..see there you go.* and he's a friken premier not the President of the United States as he just got elected and I doubt he has a vast thousand acre estate in Saskatchewan. Yep, the Saskatchewan with hardly any people in it and vast amounts of space and dirt roads....

Instead of wasting your NDP energy on some insignificant crap like this, take it to the Governor of New York and his sex exchanges. Nope, a person who wants to teach his daughter how to drive on a secluded dirt road in the middle of nowhere is more important. Amazing how people pay the utmost attention to the stupidest things in this country about upholding the law when more dangerous(and significant)things are abound.

In addition the age to learn to drive in Alberta is 14 and unfortunately that isn't the case in Sask but...jesus. What a great leap of intelligence and maturity 14 and 15 has, just like 18 and 19 for the drinking age...get real Mr Dudley Doo Right.

I'm with the premier, Kate and Bart on this...

Get a life...

Ontario does have accomodation for this in it's regulations.
A FARMERS SONmay drive a tractor (implement of husbandry) directly accross a public road at 14. Without a licence a FARMERS SON may drive a tractor (implement of husbandry) along a public road at 16. A FARMER may with a G (car licence--4555kg max) licence drive HIS heavy truck which would require a D. However the trailer may not exceed 4555 kg. Any vehicle or combination of vehicles which requires an A (class 1) requires an A regardless.
A FARMER may operate HIS truck without a Z(air brake endorsement), if the truck has air brakes.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Nothing wrong with that at all. The rural area where I live it's common to see kids driving combines and etc. on the roads all the time. No one cares, not even the local cops. Where the PM had the kid out on a remote gravel road there's no harm.
Gee Bart, I don't see the words combine and etc anywhere in the piece. If he broke the law, he broke the law. I agree its not like being caught with his pants down and his wallet on the bed, but its the same idea. Now I, being a great hater of Brad Wall and a resident of the fine Province of Saskatchewan, would at least expect an apology. By the way, its only PM in Quebec and Ottawa.

mtbr mtbr:
the NDP in Saskatchewan must be doing as well as their counterparts in Alberta
to complain about something so petty
For asking the Government to not make fun of the law?? The article says
The NDP Opposition The NDP Opposition:
The NDP Opposition wants the premier to apologize for breaking the law and then joking about it.

Former NDP justice minister Frank Quennell said although this is not a major crime, the public expects the people who make the laws to keep them or change them
Really sounds desperate eh!

grainfedprairieboy grainfedprairieboy:
The first vehicle I drove was an old 65 Pontiac at age 11 and the only thing in a 640 acre field was a swather and I hit it at about 40km.

On the prairie - driving vehicles underage is not only a right of passage but often a necessity for a farm family. On my property there of course are no limitations and our kids drive, we can drink and party and race etc. But I do not believe that any unlicensed driver should be able to operate any vehicle on any motor way under any circumstance expect to cross the road with it.
You are allowed to drive in a farm field without a licence. She was on a rural road and that comes under the law. Still, all the Opposition wants is an apology for joking about breaking the law.
