I'm sitting in a hotel room in Orlando as I type this. Thought it would be huge here, but most Americans seemed to be blissfully unaware. Hopefully there will be an end to the blockade soon, especially as it is now affecting some Canadians using Mastercard issued through credit unions.
The Bank of America purchased the MasterCard credit card business of Regina-based CUETS Financial last year. CUETS is a major producer of MasterCard credit cards in Canada for credit unions across the country. With CUETS Mastercard business now owned by the Bank of America, those MasterCard transactions are being processed in the U.S. But as the U.S. has a trade embargo with Cuba, that embargo makes it a crime, under U.S. law, for the Bank of America to process credit card transactions from Cuba, and some folks have been getting a rude surprise in Cuba when they try to pay with plastic.
They will take American dollars though.

Preferred currency there I think.
