An interesting observation:
$1:
The embarassing support base of our left (but hey, at least we know who still keeps voting for them)
Yesterday when the Liberals walked out on a confidence vote over speeding up passage of the Conservatives' crime bill, they unintentionally revealed exactly the type of people that vote for them in elections. The Liberals still have some shame, unlike the neo-Marxists in the NDP which openly voted against a deadline for Senate speeding up the crime bill. My question is why, and then I realized that the bill probably targets the very people who vote for Canada's two major left-leaning parties.
A closer examination of the crime bill reveals that it would raise the age of sexual consent to 16, up from 14. Clearly, the pedophilia vote counts for the Liberals and the NDP. The bill also includes rightful mandatory prison sentences for gun crimes as well as tougher laws for bails in general. Obviously, the political left needs the support of those benefited by the "catch and release" system of law enforcement, after all, somebody has to swag the support of violent criminals... right? The crime bill also includes stiffer penalties for drunk drivers. They can't forget the drunks. Hey, if there's more drinkers than MADD advocates, the left obviously knows where to get support.
There's more to it than that, but I think Canadians get the picture: these parties probably hate Canada. Who in the right mind would delay and/or vote against speeding up a bill like this? Are they trying to get their support base to flee the country while the bill is delayed in Senate? Most MP's voted in favor of passing the bill, so why would they split over speeding up something much needed that they all agree on?
Alternatively, these actions reveal that the Liberals cringe at the thought of an election and do the best action they can: run. Dion's Liberals are trapped in a corner: they haven't all accepted their leader, they don't have the fund-raising or national approval they once had, and they really don't have a good recent record to run on.
It also reveals that the NDP is without a compass. If an election were to be held right now, they'd be picking up Liberal seats like US Democrats pick up interest groups.
In other words, the only Liberal campaign is, "C'mon guys, Trudeau's kid is with us!" But slogan wise, in the west, they might be better off with "Dion is totally our next Laurier. For real."
Lucky for Dion's Liberals, the bill probably doesn't take much action against fortune-tellers and psychics. They could really use some of those right now.
