DrCaleb DrCaleb:
mtbr mtbr:
BTW a Corolla gets a hell of a lot more than 31mpg combined where the fuck did you get that stat from.

From places that do long term testing, and actual fuel usage measurement. The EPA estimates are wayyy off.

Robair Robair:
What exactly are you driving??

mtbr mtbr:
Yeah what the hell are you driving and I think you flunked math

See attachment. Plus an older Crown Vic. My stats are real world, not EPA estimates. I get far better fuel usage than the estimates. Even driving with a heavy foot.
I think the EPA estimates are a little bit closer than this. Otherwise this car is only slightly worse in mpg than my car with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder.

You really believe a Corolla only gets 31mpg? and you want me to believe you can drive a boat around the city (unmodified) and get the same gas mileage as a Corolla can I have some of what you're smoking?

I have driven 869 km in my Corolla the tank was almost empty it took 48 l to fill it. 50l tank

869km/ 48 =18.01km per liter or 5.55l per 100km....which is 50.8748166 miles/gallon imp.

pretty darn close to whats on Toyota Canadas website Fuel Consumption Rating*
City/Highway L /100 km (mpg) 7.1 (40) / 5.3 (53) - Manual

I find EPA estimates, which are criteria based on cars in the 70's before things like fuel injection, are way off. And as Bart said, a few modifications can greatly impact fuel economy.

My Crown Vic regularaly pulls 820km from a 69l tank. 8.4l/100km, combined City and Hghway. On long trips, that can extend to 880km, or 7.8l/100km. 3.73 rear gears reallys helps. In 400,000km the car has on it, I've rebuilt the rear LSD, and added the 3.73 gears (3.55 stock) and had the tranny rebuilt. Other than regular maintainence (plugs, wires, fluids etc) - that's all the money I've put in it since I bought it.

The Marauder can improve 1 - 1.5 l/100km just changing the reccommended settings away from the California emisssions settings. Increase rear tire pressure 5psi, for example. It lengthens the rear tire life, and improves fuel economy. Synthetic fluids also increase fuel economy. Change tranny shift points to favour upper RPMs. These minor things have dropped it well below the 9.3l/100km estimated economy, because they overcome the stumbling blocks imposed by the need to comply with California emissions.

Now, back to my point. How is this a 'gas guzzler'? 310 HP stock, corners as well as my 79 Vette', carrys 4 adults and their golf clubs. All 5 passengers have shoulder belts, front, side and curtain airbags. . .and how many cars sold in North America have a 5 star crash rating on <b>all 4 sides</b>? (I'll give you a hint - I drive 2 of them). I can have a conversation in a normal tone of voice on the highway, and not feel totally wiped out after a 6 hour drive.

If 'Canadian Cars' are losing their luster, I just don't see it.

Plus, they are a hell of a lot of fun.

Its an 05 Corolla.1.8l..now show me a V8 off the lot thats going to get the same mileage...there are none.

To get better performance and mileage on your car I'd start by adding a K&N Typhoon air filter to lower resistance and to up your intake capacity. This should not affect your oxygen sensor in the least.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx

A Magnaflow exhaust system will yield about 30-40 horsepower (and better economy & performance)

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/searc ... 4294967019

Iridium plugs are the best for a high revving engine and Denso makes great plugs that do not foul. You need to use 91 octane gas or better for best results.

http://www.densoaftermarket.com/catalog ... ne_type=L4

An MSD will burn your fuel much, much more efficiently and will prevent flooding and stalls on cold mornings.

This one would be perfect for your car:
http://www.msdignition.com/ignition_6_6420.htm

Also, the MSD heliocore shielded wires will pump up your spark just a smidge and they will last until the day you junk you car.
http://www.msdignition.com/wire_sets_1.htm#toyota

All of this will add maybe 100+hp to your car and (assuming you don't go nuts) should buck up your fuel economy anywhere from 30% to 50%.

If you only do one of these things, get the K&N Typhoon - it's the most effect for your dollar.

So Bart if I understand you correctly you would give each foreman who has never even worked on an assembly line complete discretion as to who should have a job and who should be fired. That is the most ridiculous idea I've heard in a long time. You (obviously) have never had to labour on an assembly line in your life, and know nothing at all about labour, and how it has contributed to corporations in achieving quality products. Another way organized labour has helped industry is by providing a stable, educated, and experienced work force who are at work on time every day. To have it your way would have different employees on the job every other day. Now that would really improve quality wouldn't it. Knowing that you have never set foot near an assembly line you wouldn't know how difficult the job is and how important it is to have the same experienced operator on the job at the beginning of each shift. A good day's pay for a good day's work. I am a supervisor at the Chrysler mini van plant in Windsor Ontario, and would suggest that in the future you stick to topics other than auto manufacturing. nuff said [flag]
