I doubt that there would be a fatwa ruling that a girl can play soccer while wearing a headscarf and while running around showing her bare legs in the company of males.
Sorry, the girl is citing her religion as a reason to wear the headscarf but were she truly so devout she would not be wearing shorts and wearing pants is not an option, either.

They should just wear jock straps on their heads, it won't make them look any more foolish.

You know what bothers me most Lily?
When I, as an Atheist, am in "their" country, and not escorted by a male when I am outside, and not covering at least my shoulders out of respect for a God I don't believe in, I am considered a whore, and treated like one, which means they can and will rape me. People like that are screaming in countries like ours, where we don't think that, and people have freedom of religion, we have to accept their religion, and rules have to be changed for that.
I am sorry, but I will never ever agree with it.
As for relevancy, what makes your point better than mine? Yours is just as irrelevant as mine.

lily lily: You are citing the rules, even though the rules clearly say a headscarf can be worn for religious or non-religious reasons.
That's what makes my opinion more relevant.... in THIS case.
Oh shite

You know what I find odd in that line of thought, Brenda? That you're upset about their lack of tolerance, while at the same time you're being intolerant yourself. What difference does it make to you if a girl wears a headscarf while playing soccer? Are you objecting to ALL head scarves - like the one Hurley's wife wears? Or just the religious ones?
ALL lily, I thought that was clear.

And yes, I am intolerant of people who want to change rules on their own behalf in a country that is built on a Christian idea, and do fuck in their own country.

No. I don't believe in any God, or any book about it, but I can't help it this country is based on it. I respect it though.

No, Brenda is NOT being intolerant. The muslim girl is intolerant of the customs of her adopted nation and she is being INTOLERANT of the other players who play the game and play by the rules without accomadation.
Brenda is absolutely right that tolerance is a one-way street with these people. They want US to adpat to them yet when the shoe is on the other foot do they adpat to us? No, they do not.
They want sharia law wherever they can get away with it.
They want Christmas trees banned. (No, not the Sikhs, the muslims in Europe)
They want all references to pigs removed from public buildings such as The Hogshead Pub in the UK that has had a pig as its sign for 600 years.
They want AND GET bans on non-muslims eating pork in corporate lunchrooms all over Canada and the USA. They also are trying the same in the public schools.
But what do they do in return?
Where do they demonstrate the tolerance for non-muslims that they demand non-muslims show for them?
Where?

The Latest word from FIFA:
MANCHESTER, England - International soccer rule-makers stopped short of issuing a clear ruling here Saturday on whether players can legally wear the hijab during a game.
But the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which sets the rules for all levels of competitive organized soccer across the globe, did hint that it disapproves of the Muslim headgear, saying existing rules are already clear on what soccer players can wear on the field.

I read the story, and my conclusion is that it is not part of the uniform, so no Hijab.
Anyone?

Ya, the IFAB ain't got the balls to make a decision one way or another. Disapproving of it means they are just sitting on the fence to see what happens.

No, there's nothing one way or the other in there. Holy hearing only what you want to hear, Batman...
