DrCaleb DrCaleb: Russia Ukraine: Moscow lists demands for defusing Ukraine tensionsNow we know his strategy. Putin does not get a veto on NATO policy. $1: In the proposals Russia sets out a series of radical demands, which require countries that joined Nato after the fall of the Soviet Union not to deploy troops or weapons in areas where they could be seen as a threat to Russia. Heavy bombers and warships would not be allowed in areas outside their national airspace or waters from which they could launch an attack.
That would mean Nato not playing any role at all in any of the three Baltic republics or Poland. And Nato would have to abandon any plans for Ukraine and Georgia to eventually join the Western alliance. So we're supposed to pull troops out of Poland and the Baltic states? That's definitely not going to happen, and as you said, Putin doesn't get to decide who joins NATO anymore than we decide who allies with Russia.

Trump would have agreed to every single one of these demands in a heartbeat.

"NATO ends or the piss tape gets released, tovarisch" "hyuk hyuk hyuk, covfefe! slurp slurp slurp" Probably about how deep and detailed the Putin/Trump conversation went.

In that sort of master-catamite relationship there were probably a lot of "stick it in really deep this time, Vlady" moments as well. It's, like, ewww to even think about.

$1: Russia on Friday published draft security demands that NATO deny membership to Ukraine and other former Soviet countries and roll back the alliance's military deployments in Central and Eastern Europe — bold ultimatums that are almost certain to be rejected by the U.S. and its allies.
The proposals, which were submitted to the U.S. and its allies earlier this week, also call for a ban on sending U.S. and Russian warships and aircraft to areas from where they can strike each other's territory, along with a halt to NATO military drills near Russia.
The demand for a written guarantee that Ukraine won't be offered membership already has been rejected by the West, which said Moscow doesn't have a say in NATO's enlargement. ... The Russian proposal also ups the ante by putting a new demand to roll back NATO military deployments in Central and Eastern Europe, stating that the parties agree not to send any troops to areas where they hadn't been present in 1997 — before NATO's eastward expansion started — except for exceptional situations of mutual consent.
Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic joined NATO in 1999, followed in 2004 by Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and the former Soviet republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In the following years, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro and North Macedonia also became members, bringing NATO membership to 30 nations. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/russia-se ... -1.6290328

It's probably no more complicated than realizing that Putin is going to repeatedly act towards Ukraine the same way that Li'l Kim in Pyongyang does towards South Korea in order to make himself look like a tough guy to his own people. And to, of course, distract the average Russian citizen with theatrics from realizing how much Putin & his gangster buddies have fleeced their national economy of (quite literally) hundreds of billions of dollars and left it broken & impoverished. Classic wag-the-dog mixed with a large dose of "don't pay any attention to that man behind the curtain".

Except the hermit king can do that infinitely, Putin can't. He can't keep a standing army in the field for very long and everyone knows it. If they go back to barracks and he doesn't have some sort of win then he could collapse from within from the loss of face on the world stage. So now the question is does the west want the devil you know than the devil you don't?

Scape Scape: So now the question is does the west want the devil you know than the devil you don't? The Devil I haven't tried yet. Same old, same old.
