As someone who daily drives a sports car and lives in a relatively small city (100k ish) surrounded by farm land, every fucking vehicle is a truck.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Toyota won't be refreshing the Sienna line, and Dodge killed the Caravan for 2021.

I didn't know that. Just saw a Sienna the other day that looked to be brand new. I guess that's the final facelift of the line. As for Dodge....they're going to kill one of their best selling vehicles ever? Wow.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
My summer car is a Ford Focus. And Europe is a different market than North America. Most European cities were built when horses ruled the transportation field, so not a lot of room for cars. And the population is so much denser too.

My previous vehicle was a 2014 Focus that I bought brand new. Due to all the recalls and general decline of the Ford customer service experience, I had enough. Almost all of the vehicles I've owned have been Ford, save my first ever car (Plymouth), and now my Jetta.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
But I need a truck to pull my race cars. If I get rid of them, I will likely still need a truck to maintain my acreage. You just can't haul dirt in a minivan. ;)

Makes sense 8)

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Don't even get me started there. My buddie's dad had Broncos from the late 60s to the 80's. That was a Bronco. 8)

My dad worked for Ford for many years, and owned a Bronco II for a long time. He used to bring home the full size Bronco as a demo from time to time, and both were a thing to behold back then. I miss those trucks.

I miss how the rust visibly increased and something fell off daily on my 1980 Bronco, How the rear window fell inside the tailgate and the captain's chair broke off every couple months and how top heavy and unstable it was on icy roads.
Worse, how I moved up north and the salt finished it off in 2 years and the propane it ran on (9 to 19 cents in on the mainland) was 60c at the one local station in this town. The gross error of going to the US where they ripped you off beyond belief for auto propane.
However stopping every 200 miles or so to fill up means I'm not shitting bricks that EVs don't get 1000 miles per charge....
The first Broncos were barely fucking tractors, the large ones were the "Quality is Job One" big lie the Republicans learned from, the new ones are unneededmarket waste, and I wouldn't go near a turbo4 in a bloody truck if you paid me.

I feel like the old pickups need to be brought back. The chevy s-10, the old ranger, the nissan hardbody. Bring back pick ups of that size that aren't 45 grand.

And that I can fix myself. I used to change the heater core out on many vehicles, because it was a few screws and the core was just behind the glove box.

On my F-150, it was 3 grand to replace, because everything including the seats had to be removed, right up to the firewall. They had to lift the body off the frame to replace the spark plugs. $1200. I need a new 'blend door motor' on the passenger side because the gears they used break in the cold. $1700. Why do these even move, if I haven't adjusted the heater vents?

Why does the headlight on my Focus cost $1100 to replace? And I doubt any of these conditions would change, given a switch to pure electric for these vehicles.

Cars in general need to be designed to be serviceable, and at rates people can afford. The rumours that Tesla will redesign their battery packs to be an integral part of the chassis does not bode well for the repair ability of the car. You'd just have to throw it away when the battery charge falls to 80% of capacity.

Back when I had both my Thunderbirds, I used to be able to do a lot myself. From fuses to spark plugs, from engine parts to wiring fixes and bulb assemblies.

I'm afraid to touch anything on these newer vehicles, mainly because I don't see anything familiar anymore, nor do I fully understand. I had to watch a couple YouTube videos on how my dashboard interface works, because the Jetta's manual was painful to read.

I'd hate to see the replacement cost for a headlight on my Jetta. This is the first vehicle I've owned where every light is an integrated LED.

You'd think Musk would have thought of this little detail at the beginning.

It's just a way to side step right to repair stuff. Right to repair legislation doesn't matter if you make it impossible for someone to repair it without specialized equipment.

Get rid of the Chicken tax that's been on foreign built trucks since the 1960s.
That would see prices fall....
I fully agree with you, I wanted to buy a new small pickup in 2014. There were none.

Ontario woman who drives Mercedes will need to pay $7,000 to fix headlights

My Focus headlamps are HIDs, but they also have servo motors that keep the beams pointed to where you are looking, not just forward. When you turn the wheel, the lamps turn too. 8O Not $7K, but still, $1K each isn't cheap.

It's his idea. Weight is the enemy of EVs. If you can take some weight out of the frame by using the batteries as structure, you make an EV go farther. And that seems to be the focus for many consumers. Originally the idea was to swap out battery packs when they wore out, but that doesn't sell new cars.

I like to maintain my vehicles, until they are no longer repairable.

My buddy always drove Dakotas. My Uncle has a Canyon. 8O

Even the new Ranger is the same size as my '07 F-150 used to be.

If nissan turned out a modern take on the hardbody, I'd very seriously consider it. 370z is not a good winter car.

Used to love my Dodge D50 4x4. That size... maybe extended cab. No 4 door 3 ft box "mid" size BS. My Mitsubishi Minicab was TOO small, even though the box was bigger than a full size pickup.
Maybe they'll do the CANZUK deal and we can bring in Aussie utes.
