Please save us, Peter MacKay? :?

Too bad Michelle Rempel can't speak French. She has more balls than all the males in the CP caucus combined and she'd be about the only one for whom I would have any enthusiasm.

As much as I like Michelle, if Rona Ambrose can be persuaded to run, she will get my vote. Besides being an intelligent, well-spoken person she has the respect of all parties in the HOC. She more than proved to be an effective interim Leader of the Opposition and would be a great choice for our party.

R=UP

I've been hoping she'd run for the leadership since Harper resigned. She's just what the Conservatives need and given her gender, unadultrated dislike of Justin and political acumen my guess is she'd win in a landslide.

I like Scheer as a person but as a leader he was a miserable failure. He lost an election he should have won and now with his using of conservative party funds for educating his children has shown his hypocritical or political side.

It's obvious, given this latest resignation that unlike the Liberals, the Conservatives are going to at least give the impression of holding their leaders to a higher standard.

$1:
Dustin van Vugt, the executive director of the Conservative Party of Canada, disputed this was why Scheer resigned and that "all proper procedures were followed and signed off on by the appropriate people."

"As is the normal practice for political parties, the Party offered to reimburse some of the costs associated with being a national leader and relocating to Ottawa," said van Vugt in a statement. "Shortly after Mr. Scheer was elected leader, we had a meeting where I made a standard offer to cover costs associated with moving his family from Regina to Ottawa. This includes a differential in schooling costs between Regina and Ottawa."

Had this announcement been later, JT could already have had Rona nicely packed away to Washington.

Someone suggested Kevin O'Leary but he's too busy operating boats while drunk and letting the wife take the fall when someone gets killed. Not the kind of look a party would want unless the Tories intend to go full psycho, like the now GOP are, just for laughs.

Weren’t top-ups a thing for leaders in days of yore? Nobody likes them but if he’d won the election, he’d hardly be resigning over it.

What do you say if you don’t have a family in these situations: I’d like to spend more time with myself? A spouse and kiddies do come in handy.

It's a small and silly thing if it comes from party funds instead of tax dollars. Scheer being in crisis due to the election results though it became an opportunity for his enemies to use to hang him and get him out the door.

Watching Jagmeet speak here - his beard veers worryingly to the left (his right) at the lower end.

Hopefully.

MacKay would be miles ahead of everyone else that may or may not throw their hats into the leadership fray.

Either that, or if Stephen Harper made a comeback.

That would be cool.

Had to be done. Losing party unity like that, with the Bernier schism, after Harper spent so many years putting it together was a catastrophe. And doing so poorly in suburban Ontario after Doug Ford's huge win a year or so ago was unforgiveable, even moreso when a majority of the provinces have conservative premiers in office right now. Scheer was no where near as bad as a Kim Campbell or Joe Clark in terms of getting his ass kicked but there was no way they could win with him. Even if he really isn't weak the perception that he was is cemented in, and when that happens it's impossible to overcome that image. Onwards, upwards.

Doug Ford didn’t have a “huge win” and he’s still deeply unpopular. Ford cost scheer in Ontario simply by existing as a conservative
