Frankly as bad as it looks, these two had to go. They proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were not team players and right or wrong that is what politics and political parties are all about.

When the team is corrupt, leaving is the moral option.

Okay, Dr Caleb - then why didn't they?

To bad only one of them chose the moral option, while the other one had to be publicly punted like a barfly at closing time.

Well said, Freakin'

People who secretly tape conversationsfollow Canadian laws can't claim any moral high ground.

Fixed for you.

Canada is single party consent.

When it is a whistle blower blowing in your preferred political direction, do you still find moral fault with it?

I do not find any "high moral ground" on any side of this whole affair.
As I've stated very clearly, many times here
This is the normal shit of politics. It happens all the time and the only difference is you heard about this one.

So don't play the moral issue and claim taping people is legal, because so is the 'political interference'. They're both unethical, but not illegal.

Right you are, herbie.

Listen, we all know what happened someone tried to take the high ground... they ended up delimbed, on fire and left for dead beside a river of lava on Mustafar.

The point is she's just as dirty as dear leader, she just had the presence of mind to record the discussion so she look innocent.

Might be that people are confusing "cabinet" with "caucus" and if that's the case allow me to clarify that JWR left the cabinet of her own volition but, got punted from the "caucus" or Liberal Party by that august body.

I think they are. She may have seen Cabinet as flawed, but the party still redeemable. She even said as much, as they were voting to boot her out. So I think she got it wrong, if these ladies are punished for doing what they think is right, then the party is not redeemable.

I heard Andrew Coyne the other day express frustration that Canada is one of the few countries left that let a political party become a reflection of the leader, and not the reflection of the members to which the leader must conform.

That last statement is probably the most accurate one I've seen in years and we as a country have, like it or not been experiencing this phenomenon since Confederation. And Coyne is right there have been very few PM's who weren't autocrats and who didn't openly or overtly run their party rather than the other way around. If our leaders didn't govern like that then, there'd be no need for a "party whip" in order to keep the members in line.

It must be a Canadian trait to put up with the autocracy but, even with the drawbacks I still prefer it to the American system of gov't which, is apparently designed to eat itself rather than adhere to any form of logical governance.

We might have issues, but we aren't fundamentally Borked*.

Interesting Historical note; "Robert Bork" was the guy who gave Nixon the bad advice to fire the guy investigating Nixon over Watergate. It was the pinnacle bad decision in a long line of bad decisions that led to his name becoming a verb.

I think 'Trudeau' might become one too. I'd start the trend, but am out of ideas right now.

Trudeau's merely a virtue signalling adjunct, a symptom of a problem rather than the originator of the nonsense. He doesn't deserve to have anything besides a transgender washroom in a mall or a college safe-space room named after him.

Recording unethical behaviour of your superiors to protect yourself is never unethical. That's fucking stupid.

It's the literal definition of "CYA" Cover your ass.

Exactly. I was literally taught to get everything in writing or record shit that I KNOW is shady, a bad idea, illegal, wrong, whatever qualifier you want. That's just being fucking smart.
