The courts have ruled that 'random' checks for sobriety are a violation of the Constitution.

Seen the new C46?

Seen the new C46?

Isn't that just adding same provisions that already exist for alcohol to apply to pot?

Doesn't really change the situation, they still need reasonable grounds to demand for it.

It shouldn’t require a warrant, consent to inspection should be a condition of holding a license just like consent to a breathalyzer is for a divers license.

Wrong. It's a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Breathalyzers can only be demanded when there are reasonable and probably grounds that the individual is intoxicated. So they can't just arbitrarily demand one. At least not legally. And they'd have to defend in court what the justification for it was.

But there are RIDE checkpoints where they inspect each driver and you’re required to stop. They may not breathalyze everyone they stop but everyone is required to stop and speak to the cop.

They may be required to stop but are you sure that they are required to speak with the police? Section 7 and section 11(c) addresses the right to remain silent. This video shows a lawyer in Florida who has produced a flyer that people use to assert their right to remain silent during a DUI roadblock.

For all the people who think they don’t have any sketchy friends that know someone who can get you a gun. Problem solved

https://globalnews.ca/news/4356869/3d-p ... ns-online/

Apparently it’s just in the baby stages. Has many problems, may blow up on you, is expensive to make and is only lasting a few shots. Right now it’s cheaper to machine yourself a “real” gun but technology is ever changing. If you remember history that was a problem with the first guns too. Just a guess but it’s probably more accurate than the first guns.

Agreed! And that's why if they ask you if you've had anything to drink, and you say anything above zero, you just gave them reasonable grounds for breathalyzer. Ride programs are also technically a violation of the charter, but we as a society have deemed them to be in the interest of public safety and I don't think many if any are going to go to court over it.

If you're a collector, the cops should be able to inspect your collection every so often to make sure you aren't flogging them off.

Violation of Section 8 of the charter.

The old gun registry included the provision that the RCMP could enter your house to inspect your guns at any time. It might still be buried in the legalese for the PAL and R-PAL.

sort of, you needed to have 10 restricted firearms or more, and they can't just walk in. They have to make a mutually agreeable appointment. I have never heard of it being done to anyone who isn't a collector.
