While some upward trends in spending are welcome, it's really only a cost of living increase. None of that capital increase goes to anything other than pension, pay and benefits. But we barley have the new cyclones operational and that was dam near 20 years ago!

We need to do a better job in general and not wait until equipment literally falls apart before we decide to replace them. I love the CF-18, but man they are over 30 years old already! Our own in decision on hardware selections tends to cost us significantly more in the long run than just selecting something up front.

A country our size I would agree, we need a larger AF and Navy not a large standing army. We should have 12 frigates per coast not in total and lets really put SOME effort into the arctic? I mean really...

:| I find that more than a little hard to believe.

Not that I'm a fan mind you. But that just smells like BS.

bootlegga bootlegga:
Given that the agreement was that NATO countries had until 2024 to meet the US's baloney 2% rule, we're not failing to meet any obligation..yet.

The original agreement on 2% was in 2006.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/ ... -spending/

$1:
The Liberals promised last year (2017) to increase spending on the military by 70 per cent over the next 10 years. But even with this increase, Canada will fall short of NATO’s target of spending two per cent of GDP on defence.

Yes, we are not failing... yet. And Hillary won the election.

Thanos Thanos:
I'd say "how about YOU withdraw from NATO"

Actually your psycho rambling almost makes sense.

The US should withdraw from NATO, force the Europussies ( and us )
to actually stand up for their own defense, or pay the price with the Russians or Chinese.

On a similar note, Germany should be the one to withdraw form the Euro, and the EU.

Better for all.

Not that either will happen of course, but it really would be the easiest solution.

Scrolling 5 more lines down was too hard?

Post up the document.

If it was mandatory, NATO is required to keep it, and keep it public, so it should take seconds.

In 2006, NATO member countries agreed to commit a minimum of two per cent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to spending on defence.

It's from your own link, Skippy.

Then you should easily find the written document.

Like this:

2014 Wales:

You are making the same mistake Bart is, thinking an agreement means shit unless it is on paper.

The real problem is, you are making the same mistake that Tater Tot is,
thinking Trump is going to give a fuck about your typical SJW lies and deceits.

The letter was a warning. Make public statements, and back it up with money,
or more shit is coming.

Dopey's virtue signaling at the G7 put him in the crosshairs.

And now if him and the Highest Excellency mastermind of the Afghanistan war
start taking in terms of 'well, we are ok, because we virtue signal about
putting troops and stuff'.....

Well, then we only have ourselves to blame.

Written documents are lies and deceits?

Oh noes!!!!! What forever shall we do?

A threat from Trump is about as terrifying as a wet noodle.

And you're dumb enough to think anything other then 100% submission gets you out of Trump's cross hairs.

You will have to excuse me for not living in fear from a country that was incapable of neutralizing and transforming a country smaller then ours, with a fraction of our education.

The US is as incapable of attacking us and winning, as we are of them. And it has very little to do with military, and a lot to do with societal integration. Whomever starts it will be in trouble, from both internal and external elements, which are already deeply embedded in both systems. It would be a cluster fuck shit show, likely to leave both incapable of defending against any outside observers.

To think that Canada and the US are even capable of outright warring with each other, one would have to be extremely uneducated. I do mean extremely. Both of us are decades away from being able to do it, and that is if we actually started today, which we aren't.

What points? You have yet to produce one.

As I asked previously...show the document. Back up your claim with the piece of paper that makes it legally applicable.

Until then, I will post how and when I want, regardless of the trashes opinion of it.
