housewife housewife:
Mowich hopefully you will not have to worry about bears on top of everything else. My sister lives in Maple Ridge and their backyard ends at a green space. There bird feeder is on a 4x4 post, she freezes some of her garbage and doesn't put any thing out till the morning of garbage day because of bears in her area. I am guessing that your area is a bit more rural and a little surprised that they would do something so stupid and dangerous. The animals are already on edge with the fires so close. So now everyone has to stay up on the fire as well as being hyper aware of animals. It really is a shame you just can't flog people anymore.
Thanks for the up date. Hopefully the weather will change to an all day rain and no lightning
Hi Housewife - some people are just plain thoughtless and stupid, no getting around that. I live far enough away that any bears going after the garbage won't be a problem here. For those living closer to the dumps, it could be a problem. Poor bears, they don't know any better and could well end up paying with their lives for the utter stupidity of these idiots.
Same goes for the creeps that are taking advantage of the evacs by trying to break into empty homes. As if the RCMP don't have enough on their plates, now they have to do regular patrols of all evacuated areas. We are hyper-aware around here. Because most of us are preserving our gas and not traveling about - nowhere to go anyway - any vehicles in the area are immediately noticed. Our local Fire Dept is aware of anyone who decided to leave and are doing regular checks on empty homes out here.
Unfortunately, the weather is not going to cooperate at least not for another 10 days or so. So we'll just hang tight, pray for the best and get on with our lives.
