As far as I was concerned Ford being recorded on video doing that with those gangsters meant he should have resigned when it was made public. He broke the law doing by doing that and then compounded it further with all the other illegal shenanigans involving his driver/bodyguard/pet thug by trying to suppress the video, intimidate witnesses, etc, etc. Maybe it wasn't as big an issue as if he had been embezzling tax dollars, but it was still an embarrassment for Toronto and the whole country, to have someone in charge of our largest city behave that way and then be completely unapologetic for it. That he didn't seem to have much shame over it, yukking it up over the whole issue on the Letterman show, made the whole episode absolutely pathetic.

None of this excuses the antics of certain members of the left media. But Mary Walsh is just a loud mouthed bitch with a mean streak. She isn't an elected official. Ford was and should have behaved with a bit of the dignity and self-control the job required.

No, I'm not going to pretend to like or respect someone after they're dead with useless platitudes. Sympathy for her and her loved ones is a given.

Finding something good to say about someone you don't like is not necessarily a "useless platitude" or disingenuous. And it is a sign of sympathy for that person and their loved ones.

$1:
I would think people like you, who make such stupid statements, would be the cause of far more evil than someone pretending to respect someone after they've passed.

I'm confused...I thought you said I was someone pretending to respect someone after they've passed. But now I'm not?

$1:
Rob Ford's politics are at the core of his being.

If you despise his politics, you despise him. Our political beliefs are tied directly to our own beliefs so if you don't like what Rob stands for as a Mayor, you sure as hell don't like what he stands for as a person.

Umm...Pretty sure that's what I said when I wrote "...I loathed his politics, his persona and just about everything he stood for..."

$1:
No need to pretend you're some better person because you spout off some useless politically correct garbage. Time to get off your high horse.

I'm a better person because even though I loathe him, I have genuine sympathy for him and his family. I'm not happy he's dead, I'm not indifferent to the fact that his children have no father. At the end of the day, we're all human beings man.

I never said anything about you specifically, I expressed my personal feelings about the subject. I quoted you to continue on the conversation.

Nobody said anything about a lack of sympathy. We all have sympathy for someone and their family when they die. This is about pretending to have respect for people after they die. Something many people are doing today.

Some of us choose not to engage in the useless platitudes when it comes to that person's death. While we all may feel sympathy within, we don't need to bullshit outwards to pretend we're somewhat of a better human being.

Time to get down off that horse.

Jimmy Kimmel not Letterman.

The whole Mary Walsh false outrage is ridiculous. There was nothing outrageous about it That kind of comedy happens when you're a public figure, Ford was neither the first nor the last by a long shot and he should have just played along and handled like a normal person like everyone else does instead of a perpetually outraged person.

No, jumping a guy outside his house for a "comedy" skit when his kids are with him is pretty low class. No issue at all if she'd done it at City Hall, but homes and families are off limits. It was on the same level as climbing a tree to get a clear view through a bedroom window of someone in their underwear.

How many other public figures in Canada has the show targeted at their place of residence?

Zero.

If that type of comedy "happens when you're a public figure" how come they haven't done it before or since?

Actually despite what Ford claimed his kids weren't with him. You can see on the video they weren't and the production crew that was also there said the same as well.

Maybe the private residence should be sacrosanct and off-limits, but it's not like they forced their way in the front door.

God Bless you Rob. [B-o]

Given the comments in this thread it's quite apparent you're still one of the most polarizing politicians to ever have entered Canadian politics. [cheer]

I thought you were professing to be the better person just a while ago?

In a topic about the man's death, you're discussing how a comedy show went to his house and you fully supported their actions.

A true class act you are.

Gee, I guess I was right in my earlier post, no matter what you'll attack. I say something nice, how dare I be so phony. I say something you think is not nice, how dare I speak ill of the dead. You're desperate. Please clarify how you think people should respond instead of finding excuses to attack people no matter how they respond. Like, please tell us what the right answer is. What is the one correct way to behave according to the gospel of OTI?

By the way, I didn't say that I fully supported their actions. I said there was nothing outrageous about it. I said there were no kids present. I said "Maybe the private residence should be sacrosanct and off-limits, but it's not like they forced their way in the front door."

Like I said earlier, you and Cherry and your kind are just trying to bait the 'pinkos' into attacking Ford so you can use it as propaganda and show people how the awful lefties wont even leave a dead man alone. When nobody takes the bait you accuse the 'pinkos' of being hypocrites or cowards for not continuing to attack him.

Like I said, sad for him and his family. But his death doesn't retroactively make him a saint or change the facts of his record as Mayor. Just because he died, I'm not going to say he was a good mayor because the simple fact is that he wasn't. But that doesn't mean I'm glad he's dead or that I don't feel for his family.

If you really believe in Rob Ford's claim to be an uncensored, plain-speaking man, then you'll stop trying to play politically correct policeman to score political points off people who you personally deem to be too critical or not sincere enough.

Condolences to the family and fans of @TorontoRobFord - an unforgettable guy who loved his job and city like few men I've met.

You jumped into this post not with a kind word or a message of sympathy, you jumped in and repeatedly voiced your displeasure for Rob as a person and politician.

Saying you have sympathy for someone is not "saying something nice" after you're basically disparaged the man repeatedly with your posts. 5 posts in, after telling us how much you despise the man, you express faux sympathy and then turn around and say, "look, I said something nice" all while telling is all how much of a better person you are.

If you don't have anything nice to say, stay the out of the posts because you look even more like the bitter left-wing asshole that you truly are.
