DrCaleb DrCaleb:

For me, if I wanted a dog for protection or fighting, I'd get a pit bull because that's what they were bred for.

They weren't bred for fighting. They were bred to hunt bears and buffalo.

What are you saying, that I'd have a better chance against a pit bull than a bear or a buffalo would? [huh]

No, just that there are so many myths regarding pitbulls, I thought a little history would be appropriate. ;)

I look askance at those who own toy breeds as much as those who own pitbulls.

I used to as well. Until my ex got a sheltie years back, kind of grew on me.
The Pom was a rescue dog who decided to own us instead of moving on. He's great at letting me know when the guy in the big white truck comes and steals our garbage every Tuesday morning...
First time my daughter saw him she said "the older they get, the smaller their dogs are.."

This guy was walking his dog and it was attacked by an Aikida, as he was trying to stop it from attacking his dog the Aikida turned on him. So it's just not pit bulls, rottweilers as there's certain breeds of dogs that are dangerous because of irresponsible owners.

Rat problems?

Not if you have one of those. Up here they'd just be a snack for some local wildlife or a rez dog.....mind you whatever tried eating one would have a few bites and scratches.

Very tough dogs. I was renting a room in my house to a guy who had one, the terrier would take on my lab cross that was 4 times as big. Took the Russell and my dog skiing down a steep gully. My dog was used to this stuff, just followed me down. trying to bite my ankles off. The Jack Russell sat at the top of the slope, yipping away, while I was calling him. He finally got the courage up, skied down on his butt steering with his front legs. He aimed for a patch of vegetation, crashed into it, sat there yapping again. Then off to the next patch and so forth. He figured out what worked for him.

I would make a list of breeds presumed to be dangerous tho, ie they don't get one bite before they are deemed dangerous. Just compile stats of what breeds cause the most damage (we know what the prime suspects will be) and have them on the list.
DrCaleb DrCaleb:

You know, if you said that regarding people, you'd be accused of racism.

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
What kind of comment is this?

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
The truth. If someone said "well, you just can't trust their kind. They are prone to violence." And they were speaking of black people, it no more applies to black people that it does dogs.

Yes, because breeding dogs is just like breeding people.

Man Mauled To Death By His Own Dog

http://news.sky.com/story/1615344/man-m ... is-own-dog

$1:
Police have not said what breed of dog was involved, but unconfirmed reports suggest it was a pit bull terrier.

One man, who said he was the victim's cousin, said "he had an epileptic fit" at the time of the attack.

Wust a wittle puppy dog, yes you are.
