No. I've just come to the realization that what it takes to truly be a Christian is not something I'm interested in.

R=UP

Because that "what it takes" is delusion? It's hard to be religious when you have even a rudimentary grasp on things like history, allegory, science and common sense.

What it takes is my willingness to live up to being a Christian.

A couple of weeks ago I came very, very close to killing someone who assaulted me and my wife and I didn't give a shit about it. Granted, he hurt me pretty bad at the outset and I am looking at surgery on October 12th to repair the damage.

My only regret is that I didn't kill the son-of-a-bitch.

I'm not going to pray for him. I don't care and I won't pretend to care.

I'm also not going to malign actual Christians by saying I'm one of them.

Christians are sinners and they try to be better people.

I've just come to the place where I have embraced my inner motherfucker and I'm good with it.

ROTFL

Talked to a friend who's in sales at a Volkswagen dealership, right now they are not allowed to sell new diesel vehicles for at least 4 months. 8O

Hey, that's your prerogative, but it just further proves my belief that Christians can be just as big (if not bigger) assholes as the rest of us.

I'm not a Christian.

You don't believe in Jesus? Really? Okay, let me fix that then.

I guess now would be a killer time to be any other VW. The dealerships would be so empty right now you could probably trade a 24 pack for a new Jetta.

Good! They falsely advertised a product that cost people $~30,000 of their hard earned money and an untold amount of goodwill for lying about the characteristics of their product. Properties that the buyers wanted - cleaner, more powerful and more economic. All bullshit!

Volkswagen was recently the largest company worldwide. It's going to be a long fall from grace.

It's not the fault of the dealerships and without those sales people might start losing their jobs or having to look somewhere else. Bad as this might seem it doesn't come close to what GM did which cost innocent people their lives.

From what I read, their reliability is atrocious anyway, so while they might build nice driving cars, if you want one that works, look elsewhere.

Quite true. It's not costing lives, and the salespeople bear no fault for it. But VW has gone out of it's way to deceive a lot of people, as Martin points out, it wasn't just a rogue person or two who tried to pull a fast one. It was systemic, from the top down, and a lot of people had to be complicit.

Just like Enron or Lehman Brothers, a lot of people had to be in in the shell game. And a lot of innocents are going to pay for it.

Meh. The cars drive fine. If you look around at all the gas hogs on the road, people don't really give a shit about pollution anyway, and anybody that buys a diesel to be "green" has a screw loose. So the only paying is that the resale value drops, and that's only because of perception - if this hadn't come out, the cars would drive just the same but people would be eagerly buying them. If you own one of these things, drive it until it totally falls apart, as you should anyway to get maximum value out of a vehicle. Don't worry about resale value.

I wonder tho how Europe is dealing with this, since diesels are far more popular there, for milage, not environmental reasons. Despite the popularity of "clean" diesels, their pollution levels have not gone down.

The accepted levels in Europe of nitrogen oxide for example are much higher, we'll have to see if VW even managed to break those levels. If they did, the SW really HTF.

Next levels of Euro 6 just came out, new diesel levels go from 180NOx to 80 mg/km.
Regular cars down to 60mg/km

Clean diesel is a misnomer.
Diesels aren't clean; they are in fact dirtier than regular gas.
They are popular due to the consumption.

That's true and corporate heads are starting to roll as Martin posted and as AndyT pointed out they will drive fine but at the end of the day it's nothing compared to raising the price of a lifesaving Aids drug 5000 percent, if anything deserves World outrage it's that!
