ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
As far as I know Bart's the only Republican on here, and possibly MeganC. You said nothing about liberal or Republican in your original statement. You claimed religion and education were diametrically

They sure seem to be today, which is my point. I acknowledge that there was a brief period between the era oF jailing and executing scientists and the era of "creation science", during which time religious orders founded some schools. But those schools became great because they distanced themselves from religion.

I used to work with a fellow years ago who was very opposed to homosexuality. So opposed that he considered disallowing his children from seeing Disney movies because he was upset that they "let" someone "like" Elton John sing in one of them (Lion King I think).

He firmly believed, and would say so over and over, that as long as his son went to an all-boys school and his daughters to an all-girls (private Catholic schools) then they would never learn about or know about people being gay. :!: I guess he intended to keep them in a cave underground with no access to any communication with other humans for the rest of their lives.

You need to meet more people then. I've worked with Jesuits and Dominicans, both teaching orders. The Jesuits have several scientists in their order from astrophysics to medicine. My kids attended a Dominican run school and it was evolution that was taught in school, not creationism.

But that doesn't mesh with his right wing religion evil/left wing atheist good mindset.

Sex Ed sure has changed since I was in elementary school. Looking at the list that Beaver posted, even from 1998 curriculum, there is quite a bit that I sure don't remember being taught at those levels. I do recall that in grade 5 a nurse gathered the girls together to tell us about the "woman" stuff and we got a little booklet that explained all the wonderful changes we would soon experience  . We were not told about what the boys would go through and certainly not about sex. It wasn't as though no one knew but it just was not taught at school.

I think it was grade 8 or 9 science class where we were shown a film about birth control. I can still remember the teacher (name escapes me) inflating a condom like a balloon so that we could see that as tiny as they appeared they could expand to larger size and not break that easily

Well all the Domincans I know spend their summers picking fruit, are obsessed with baseball, speak mostly Spanish and make cheap knockoff cigars.

Right wing religion is evil. Left wing religion is benign but they're so politically irrelevant it's easy to forget they exist. Their are no politicians running around trying to capture the religious left voting base, because there isn't one. They're just lefties who happen to have personal religious beliefs.
