This is Canada. The show is made in England. What does someone here having various channels on their TV here have to do with the BBC. My point about cable was that in the US, they have very different standards for cable vs broadcast channels - Tosh would never fly on broadcast there. But why compare an American show to an English one - it's not as if the decision was made here or in the US.
The three guys are actors playing roles. Like shock jocks. They want to create controversy, because they don't have that much to offer as a straight car show. Everybody makes lots of money. If they step over the line tho, it will be them that is the scapegoat.
None of this has anything to do with why Clarkson was suspended, so I don't see the fuss about what Clarkson has said or not.
BTW, the show is a comedy. And car porn. People seem to take it much to seriously. Like John Stewart being attacked for not being more serious about the news.

Tricks Tricks: xerxes xerxes: I'm going to have to disagree. He didn't have to finish off that nursery rhyme with an ending I hadn't heard before, Can you say without a shadow of a doubt you can make out what Clarkson says in that audio? Cause I can't. $1: He didn't have to use a racial slur to describe the shitty bridge they built. I didn't even know that was a racial slur. They said themselves they didn't realise it was offensive. Could be bullshit, but holy shit if the bridge was sloping, are we so politically correct we can't say slope anymore? Math classes everywhere are fucked. It's now the gradient of a line. $1: He tries to be provocative, I get it, but he doesn't always do it well. And think ultimately, his previous headaches caused for the BBC will end up costing him this time. He does try to be provocative, but there are worse, much worse, that get away with it easily. Shit Tosh on his show says things 10X as bad. No one bats an eye. Or comparatively doesn't bat an eye. I agree with your subsequent post that his past controversies have no bearing on this latest kerfuffle. And I hope he doesn't lose his job. But I'm not blind to his idiocy either. For the bit in Burma, yes the bridge had a slope to it, but there was an Asian man walking across it. BS they didn't know that word. I'm half his age and I knew that. And the fact that he fessed up to the alternate ending to the kids' nursery rhyme, tells me that he did say it.

I dunno. The first time I heard the term was from an older friend overseas, about three years ago. A member here taught me the term 'nine iron'. Wog was a term that I heard my granduncles use.....but they applied it to anyone not British. It was from one of my maternal Granduncles, that I heard the phrase, 'The wogs start in Calais'. He spent a June in Normandy.
My favourite scene from the show was the India edition. Eat more English muff on the side of the train.

He didn't have to finish off that nursery rhyme with an ending I hadn't heard before, Can you say without a shadow of a doubt you can make out what Clarkson says in that audio? Cause I can't. Nor me. Considering that never made it to air, JC was the victim of a hatchet job, because someone had to go searching for that little tidbit. $1: He didn't have to use a racial slur to describe the shitty bridge they built.

He said " slope ON the bridge". If he had said " slope TO the bridge", he could have gotten away with it. I noticed right away, but thought maybe the Brits don't use it. After a few days, then it became obvious that ONE person did pick it up, and again they start chasing JC for it. Lefties are usually just sour jealous little asshats. $1: $1: He tries to be provocative, I get it, but he doesn't always do it well. I have to agree, that he meant 'slope' as derrogatory. But his previous controversies shouldn't have any bearing. Sure, he was driving a truck when he suggested they pull over and murder a prostitute, but that was also a recent news items that a truck driver had actually been murdering prostitutes. Same with the dig that the new Mercedes SatNav system always found a driving route through Poland. That was (and still is) hilarious, and screw the Germans if they can't take a joke! And Piers Morgan really needed to be punched in the face, so who can blame him on that? But your own producer? Well, I think he does need a bit of a holiday on that one. But there is no way they'd ever cancel the show. It's too big a money maker.

Did he fess up cause he said it, or because he was being attacked over it and "apologized" under pressure of the BBC? I honestly think that as obtuse as Clarkson is, he wouldn't blatantly use a racist slur on television.

How terrible that Clarkson should lose his job for calling a zipperhead a slope.
