All I'm getting out of any of the three reports is, the US Marines had to hand over their personal weapons before leaving Yemen, regardless of whether they were destroyed or not. Seriously? Were they flying out on Emirates or something?
I get the vehicles and crew served weapons being destroyed. Can't take everything with you when you gotta split in a hurry.
It makes a big difference though, whether they
handed them over, or whether they
destroyed and discarded them. If they were flying commercial or charter, they wouldn't have been able to take weapons with them, but in any case, how they got rid of the weapons says a lot about the situation.
I still can't see them ever 'handing them over'. Ever.
