llama66 llama66: No, I made the spine comment because there are far too many who apologise for these vermin. We need to be stronger then them and we need to have the spine to do what needs to be done.
Someone bloodies your nose, you don't make excuses as to why they just punched you. You return the favor. What needs to be done that we are not doing? There will always be some apologists for anybody, but that's what free speech is about. People here want to paint me as an apologist because I try to keep my head about this and not paint all Muslims with the same brush nor just spread hate. There are actually far fewer apologist than exist in some people's imagination here, because I just don't hear the apologies they are talking about. Unless anything but unthinking hate is deemed being an apologist. I can tell you one thing. CSIS and the police are underfunded. They've stated they don't have the resources to monitor the guys they know about 24/7. It would seem like a wise investment to give them the funds to do so.

Everything is inevitable. It was only a matter of time before it happened in Canada. I'd like to see the blinders come off but it'll be so wrapped up in some rights-based argument that nothing will change at all. In fact it's all the same as it ever was, with the comments section on the taxpayer-funded CBC website full of the usual too-bad-it-wasn't-Harper-that-got-shot sort of class that the Canadian left is known for. Just wondering what the betting pool is at for when Justin Trudeau makes his also-inevitable "society failed these unfortunate young men" comment because the everyone else is to blame except for the individual who actually committed the crime streak of stupidity never goes out of fashion with the left-wing brain.
Oh well, hopefully these fuckers have just taken one huge step towards their own Krystallnacht being wreaked upon them. As opposed to the Jews in Germany in 1938 these sons of bitches absolutely 100% deserve it when it finally happens.

llama66 llama66: I hope this galvanises the population into understanding that ISIS and religious extremism is an enemy to the Canadian (and Western) way of life and that ISIS and all people who share their view needs to be dealt with.
Its time for Canada to find its backbone. I agree, but at the same time we have to be careful not to go too far on the law and order side of things. Those who give up freedom for security will get neither. It certainly sounds like those on the watch list should be scooped up and interrogated - and when released, watched very, very closely.

The car attacker was. Didn't stop him. But yes, CSIS/RCMP need more resources to watch these guys more consistently. Still, a guy driving a car, you don't really what he's up to till he does it.
I say, since long arms were used in the attack on Parliament hill, time to crack down on long arm ownership. No more semi-auto rifles and shotguns.

andyt andyt: I wonder about that, if it was a shotgun. In fact for rifles, what sort of magazine limits do we have in Canada? Probably she was exaggerating in the excitement.
Are these guarding soldiers armed, or just ceremonial? Probably time for armed personnel on guard in parliament. And of course soldiers everywhere need to be more cautious. When the CF18's left cold lake, the media was prevented from showing the faces of the pilots or their families. Time for more precautions like that. Probably just ceremonial.

andyt andyt: BartSimpson BartSimpson: andyt andyt: ... what sort of magazine limits do we have in Canada? The kind that only law abiding people give a shit about. Terrorists have no such limits to obey. They got illegal magazines, but not automatic weapons? strange terrorists. Welcome to Canada, where even the terrorists are underfunded.....

Still, a guy driving a car, you don't really what he's up to till he does it. I guess your definition of "watched closely" is different from mine. If he was watched very closely, this wouldn't have happened. The second he got out of the car with a long arm the cops watching him would have taken him down. andyt andyt: I say, since long arms were used in the attack on Parliament hill, time to crack down on long arm ownership. No more semi-auto rifles and shotguns. That's stupid and an over-reaction. Our gun laws already do a great job of restricting that which should be restricted (militarized weapons) and allowing the rest. A shotgun or bolt action rifle isn't much of a threat - as evidenced by how easily the cops dealt with the gunman.

People willing to be martyrs for the cause will be deterred? It doesn't even work for regular crazies, why would it work for these guys? The car driver, he got shot because he came at armed police with a knife. Does that sound like somebody that wants to live/
