Yeah, this kid's scholarship to Harvard really got derailed by getting an afternoon's suspension within the first two weeks start of the school year. Maybe to make up for the cosmic unfairness of it all the heroes at Galt's Gulch can arrange some kind of a bursary so he can hone his capitalist skills at the Ayn Rand Business Academy when he graduates.

If missing a half day didn't matter then we should shorten the school year by a half day.
Punishing students by preventing them from learning is a terrible, counter productive form of punishment.
A much better solution would be a quick chat saying you can't sell on school property because the school board has a contract with a third party provider to establish a monopoly on the sale of drinks in the schools.
But a reasoned reaction would require a level of leadership that's highly unlikely to be found in the education system.
