Somebody should inform the Ambassador that we have freedom of expression in Canada.

We most certainly do not.

If such an exhibit is so upsetting to someone then they should not go. The more people refuse to go the less money and attention it will get. The less attention the exhibit gets the less attention and or money the artist gets. In the end the artist goes broke and quits making these types of images or gets rich and continues on thinking they are doing a great service to man kind.

Delwin Delwin:
Ok, but that the art is victimizing or glorifying anything is completely opinionated and based on your personal feelings, feelings that not everyone is going to share. Where is anyone "calling" anyone a victim ?

To quote the article:

"The exhibit includes five pieces. The most controversial, called "Target," comprises a series of projections against a white wall depicting what the artist calls "assassinated Palestinian figures."

The exhibit booklet says the projections — which are flashed quickly on the wall making their written descriptions difficult to read — are of "lost artists, activists, writers and leaders.""

If that doesn't make them sound like they were victims, what would? That's the wording describing said individuals.

$1:
You are assigning meaning where non exists. If I put on a slide show it is not ipso facto these guys are great.

The meaning is from the description of the artist's own work! Without the context of a number of those "lost artists, activists, writers, and leaders" who seemingly also were murderers and terrorists, what sort of meaning am I supposed to take from it?

$1:
There are of course limitations on freedom of expression other than hate crime to protect children from exposure to violence, pornography, libelous statements, etc

But what would be the justification in a court to have this removed ? Because of your interpretation of what it means ? It's simply not enough and shouldn't be, ever.

I bolded something for you. Read that, and remember the context. This exhibit states these "lost artists, activists, writers, and leaders" that were killed or died during the Israeli control of the West Bank and the Gaza strip also seemingly consist of those who purposely and willingly killed dozens of civilians. How surprising that Israel won't be too happy about an art exhibit making the murderers of their people as innocent victims who were assassinated by Israel without due cause.

Also, I never said to take it down, but let's not pretend this isn't political, and that the Israelis are just acting without just cause here.

Neither country takes their marching orders from Likud. Both countries, by choice, are very much pro-Israel, even when a balanced approach would be more helpful.

In the US we have the phenomenon described in Charlie Wilson's War, where he says he's elected by the Jews in New York - ie receives way more political contributions from them than the people in the Texas district he represents. Because he reliably votes pro Israel, no matter what. The Israel lobby has a lot of cash to spread around, and cash is what gets you elected. It's understandable that American Jews would be pro-Israel, but when they are so unquestionably so, ultimately it will kick back on them, or rather Israel. I don't think their policies regarding the settlements will be helpful in the long run.

In Canada we don't have that powerful lobby, at least not hat we know about, and the Jewish vote isn't the determining factor in many ridings, yet Stephen Harper has choses to take a very hard pro-Israel stance that may also come back to bite him at some time.

Oh you mean my sarcastic reply to you that you became a crybaby over? You do realize my original reply to your implication was:

commanderkai commanderkai:
Oh, did the Israelis buy more than the US government?

Whoever knew a country of 8 million could afford to control so many governments.

You're the one who both went on the offensive after a two sentence sarcastic remark, including getting quite personal. But right, I went apeshit, except you're the one who went into two and a half paragraphs of garbage to both go on the attack and try to weakly and pathetically defend your opinions.
