Jabberwalker Jabberwalker:
Shouldn't these light armoured vehicles be capable of going just about anywhere?

You're mistaking an LAV for a helicopter.

Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes:
So because you cant think of it, it cant happen and have you ever been offroad in a vehicle?
I was a LAV 25 driver for 2 years.

I'm asking you to give me an example. I have already given 3 examples, massive mechanical failure, a covered hole in the ground or a river ford.

Give me a few.

You are also wrong about the fording.

The CF no longer fords vehicles, it also doesn't swim any. Or at least it didn't 3 years ago.

Gunnair Gunnair:
Maybe, but man he is a good shot!

Better than most police officers.

377 rounds fired at two unarmed men, both killed. Also 2 police officers managed to get shot somehow. Oh and two other officers had burst ear drums from the sound of gunfire.

EDIT picture related, the superior marksmanship of the police:

If you drove a LAV then you would know if you climb a steep hill, all you will see is sky (especially when you reach the crest). So in this instance you would have no idea what is beyond the crest; could be a tank trap, could be a smooth decline, could be a sharp decline.

In regards to fords, a vehicle may ford an approved site if it has authorization to do so. It can be difficult to get approval (weighing training vs environmental impact), but Wainwright has two fording sites which can be crossed if given approval.

Which is why you have a CC watching with you, and you never rush over the top of a ridge or berm. In fact if you are moving in any sort of tactical manner you would never crest the nose of your vehicle of a the top of raise. That's just bad tactical movement.

Yep and they don't give approval due to the risk of oil and fuel from the vehicles getting into the river. If you know anyone that has forded a vehicle in the last 10 years in Wainwright I'd love to hear of it.

The idea that because their is a process to get the approval means it still happens is kinda silly. They still have an area in Gagetown to swim the LAV 25s despite none of the vehicles being water tight anymore.

It's like the ATC for guns. In theory you can get a license to carry a pistol in Canada for self defence, but the unspoken law is that they never issue the permit, unless you're a friend of a powerful politician and give the right people lots of donations.

Who said anything about rushing, and if the grade is high enough the CC isnt going to see what is over the crest either.

Gagetown has closed all of it's fording sites, Wainwright has not. If you want I will ask tomorrow.

A 8 wheeled vehicle can rock on it's center wheels as that's the center of gravity. Crest the top a dip forward and down then have the vehicle tilt back. But again, if for some reason you can't see what ground you are going to drive on, then pick another route. It's unsafe to drive onto ground you can't see, more so while in training.
