Only eight of more than 100 students are unaccounted for, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade said in a statement that gave no details.

"The others have been freed this evening," he said.

The government had reported that security forces were in hot pursuit of militants who abducted more than 100 females from a high school early Tuesday.

Here I thought the KKK was founded by six Confederate veterans in 1865. I also thought they were far right, and not center-right like the Democrats are.

But groups like the KKK and Boko Haram need to be eradicated, along with their supporters.

Uh, I'm not sure what I missed, but Fiddle isn't wrong when he says that Democrats did found the KKK. The same Democrats of 2014? Fuck no, but at the time, they were certainly considered extreme Democrats. (Seriously the fact that the Democrat party even survived this legacy without changing it's name to ANYTHING else is rather impressive, to say the least). They were Confederate veterans pissed about the result of the Civil War, and with Lincoln's assassination, and the splitting of the Republican party between "Radical Republicans" (who wanted harsh terms on the South) compared to "moderates" (generally wanted to let matters lie and not bother with establishing political rights for minorities) allowed the Democrats (of the time) to reestablish political power over the US south, something they cornered until around the 1960s. And no, the whole shift between party allegiances is a little more complex than just "OH ALL THE RACISTS DECIDED TO BE REPUBLICANS AFTER THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT" is hilarious, and not in the funny way

The one thing that always amused me about the KKK is that they consider Catholics not Christian, for whatever reason. They probably consider Orthodox Christians in the same boat with the Catholics. Never really understood the Catholic hatred beyond Protestant arrogance and anti-immigrant sentiment (Irish first, then the Italians later).

Edit: Back to the story itself. I hope the Nigerian military slaughters the Boko Haram even after they release the girls. Fuck these guys. Hopefully they are cornered like the Nigerian military claims.

It is. Oil revenues, free education, large population. But it's always had cultural or sectarian violence. And having it's shit together more than most African countries doesn't mean it's not a basket case. It's just the least broken in Africa.

I read too that the FBI is waiting to be asked to help out. Strange, since they changed their mandate recently from being anti-crime to being anti-terror in focus.

What's wrong with 'Goodluck'? Decent name I think. I get tired of the 'tribal' names just because they want to seem 'tribal'.

And the Muslims there I don't see as any different from the Fundamentalist Christians etc. that we have here, who also want to turn back the clock on things like Science and Social Correctness. The only difference between the two is the subtlety of their tactics.
