Empty statement. What does this mean exactly? That life as we now it today is better than say, life as it was in 1974, or 1992, or the Victorian era, or any other previous era? The reason this is an empty statement is because in any one of those times, people would have said the same thing, given that in any period, "today" always has more techology than any other time that came before.
And what does "the best time to be alive" really mean anyway? It sounds like it's only measuring our self-satisfaction and not the consequences of our actions. For example, let's assume it was undisputed and fully accepted that our modern conveniences and technology that we so enjoy was in fact slowly killing the planet and all its life forms as we know it. It would still be the 'best time to be alive'. The comment really just says 'don't worry your pretty little head about serious things or the consequences of your actions and just do whatever makes you happy". It's not a moral argument, it's a self-indulgent argument, and I recgonize it because it's pretty much verbatim of what comes out of every teenager's mouth.
