It doesn't seem to be something terrorists would target.
Where's the connection.

Could be a good ole fashioned insurance scam.

It took a French Canadian to come up with that strategy . the first person ever to put a bomb on a plane with his wife.
He got caught for he really spent a lot of money on insurance.

wow it's in wiki

I'm not sure if you've been in an airport, or in an airplane in the last...oh...70 years, but security at airports has been a bit more strict than 1949, and planes are built a bit stronger.

woo hoo DC 3 baby!. His last ride.

Some blithering idiot on the local news said they switched off the transponder and possibly diverted to another country. The radar in his head is not working.

Fly by wire is refers to the way the flight surfaces are controlled by the yoke and rudder pedals. You're thinking of the avionics that give the pilots information.

I'm thinking about fully automatic, computerized systems that control the entire aircraft. I know, our cars are like that now, as well. How many Toyotas have been recalled because of software issues?

Yes they do. Integrated nav and flight controls.

The US Navy is doing a full-court press to aid in the search for the missing airliner. We've sent two destroyers into the South China Sea to help and we've also sortied two more surface ships from Guam into the SCS. We've got P-3 flights coming out of Whidbey and Guam to help, too.

Conveniently, all of this assistance is also deliberately intruding Chinese-claimed territory in the SCS.

Chatter from some friends of mine indicates that a shoot-down of the airliner by a PLAN ship in the SCS has not been ruled out given that one of their ships went to high speed and bugged out of the area at the same time the airplane went missing.

Be kind of interesting to see how the average person in China would react to find out their navy shot down and killed a bunch of their own people.

The United States extensively reviewed imagery taken by American spy satellites for evidence of a mid-air explosion, but saw none, a U.S. government source said. The source described U.S. satellite coverage of the region as thorough.

If it's so thorough, where's the plane?

in the water. An explosion is going to show up a lot more readily than just the plane. So maybe the airframe just disintegrated. Unlikely scenario, but who knows. But a missile fired at the plane, then the plane exploding, I would expect satellites to be able to pick that up.

That's the rub though; if they have continuous coverage of the area, then they saw what happened. They'll know exactly where it went down in the water.

If there isn't continuous coverage, they'll know where it was supposed to be and the limits of where it could be given it's speed.

What do I know? The article says coverage is thorough. So maybe an explosion will show up, but the plane doesn't. Or, they now know exactly where the plane went down, but saw no explosion as it went down. Guess we'll find out in time.

terrorism....flying below the radar? If it disintegrated in the air, there`d be stuff floating and they know what the ocean and wind currents are. In order for there to be no or little physical evidence, the fuselage would have had to hit the ocean almost completely intact
