I got to know a history professor(through a friend) in Brandon, Dr. Hans Burmeister, and he`s written a paper on it. He was a boy when it happened to his family. He had also been a member of the Hitler Youth Corp

Thanos Thanos: BartSimpson BartSimpson: The guy in question was 18/19 at the time and he's 88 now. Doesn't matter. No one was press-ganged into a Waffen-SS unit like the 2nd Division Das Reich. All SS up to the very end were volunteers. Not true. During the Nuremburg Trials, despite Waffen-SS veterans being denied the same rights as those that fought in the Heer, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine, an exemption was made for Waffen-SS conscripts sworn in after 1943 because of their involuntary servitude.

Public_Domain Public_Domain: BartSimpson BartSimpson: The guy in question was 18/19 at the time and he's 88 now.
1) He did not have much authority at age 18/19 and was not issuing orders.
2) Questioning such orders would have been cause for his immediate execution.
3) At this point in time the question of his participation in the killings is speculative.
4) He's likely going to be acquitted or have the charges dropped for lack of evidence. If faced with the unfortunate choice of death or murder, I do expect people to choose death, and face punishment if they chose murder. It is not an excuse, it is self-preserving blind cowardice, and I see no reason to reward it. But what if the choice is murder or your family will be tortured and killed?

BartSimpson BartSimpson: [ Again, it's a long time ago. Let the sleeping dog lie or else let's be honest and prosecute everyone who committed atrocities during that war. It's easy to let him sleep if that war wasn't in your country. I think, if it was on US territory you won't be so calm about it.

The Russians committed their fair share of atrocities and NOT just against the Germanic people in Europe. Like the previous mentioned Katyn massacre of 1940 for instance.

Problem is, Russia was "working" WITH Germany up until 1941. The two had an agreement to carve up Poland along ethnic lines when Germany invaded it. On Sept 17, 1939 Russia began its own invasion of Poland and its own deportation of Polish citizens to the Soviet Union. At one point, at least, the Germans and the Russians exchanged Polish POWs depending on whether the POWs were from eastern Poland or western Poland. The Soviets made a deal with the devil and then cried foul when the devil tried to claim their soul. This apparently excuses them for any atrocities they committed during and after the war, regardless of "how much worse" the nazis were.

And Britains were not waiting 9 month after war begin to see how SU will be dealing with nazi? We saw how they dealt with the nazis initially. The Soviets said, "Sure, let's carve up Poland between us". Russia wasn't going to do anything else about it, until they were left with no choice in 1941. But funny you'd ask the question you did. Where was Russia when Germany was bombing the snot out of Britain and overrunning France as it chased the BEF out of the country? Poland did get screwed by Britain and France at the beginning. But then again, Britain and France would have ended up having to fight the Germans AND the Russians if they had stepped in militarily. Or else picked a side, neither of which would have been good for Poland.

Aw, and in Stalingrad, Minst, KYiv, Harkiv and other battles there were a lot of French and US soldiers. You can't help if have own trouble.
