Then why call it a hut? How does that compliment it? It doesn't even flow off the tongue very well in comparison to "house".
It seems to require more effort to bring yourself to say "White Hut" instead of "White House", so what is the reason or cause that compels you to use that alternate phrase? It doesn't have to be racism, but I would imagine it has to be something, as little is said for no reason.
It's a term of endearment or a diminutive. Sort of like calling a kid you like a 'little bastard'.
True, it could be perceived as insulting but in context it isn't.
Just so you're up on some of the Washington DC lexicon here's some trivia for you:
The Five Sided Funny Farm = The Pentagon. It's also known as
Fort Fumble in some circles.
Foggy Bottom = The State Department
The Puzzle Palace or
No Such Agency both used to be in usage when publicly uttering the name of the National Security Agency was still a felony. These days most people just call it the NSA. Some still call it the
Fort Meade China Cabinet (for all of the satellite
dishes it has.)

J. Edgar Hoover Building is also known as
Fort Hoover.
The CIA headquarters in Langley is frequently referred to as
The Farm while
The Company refers both to the CIA in general and to their DC office.
Besides,
The White House is itself a nickname that used to be considered in some circles to be a crude way to refer to
The Executive Mansion - which is the official name of the President's crib at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
