Not really. "It" dehumanizes the person described as such. Whatever your opinion on transgender people(or whatever they're called now), taking away their humanity is a large first step in a bad direction.

I hardly have an opinion on transgender people as I have no direct experience with them (as far as I'm aware). This particular one, though, has so many ancillary issues associated with him/her that I don't feel horribly generous about preserving his feelings.

Nooooo doubt. When I was still a teenager, having done time meant you were a stupid loser. Now it's a friggin' badge of honour or something.

(s)he can wait until (s)he has served their time for their crime, and then can apply for gender reassignment and hope the government they betrayed will pay for it. Buddy swore an oath, but violated it. let him practice being female in prison and then ask if he wants to make the full transition.

I personally don't care about his sexual identity. I didn't know until his lawyers brought it up as an explanation (or whatever reason. If they wouldn't have, someone else would so I think it is a smart thing to do anyway).

He is obviously troubled, which make me wonder why he was in Iraq in the first place and why he was allowed access to what he had access to. I guess that I am not just blaming him/her, but the system.
Doesn't condone his actions tho.
On the other hand, 35 years is ridiculous in my opinion.
