Why should the Protestants put themselves under the power of a republican government that's essentially a subsidiary of the Roman Catholic Church? If your locality gets swamped with Muslims are you going to willingly submit to sharia just because you're in the minority? :?

Do try to keep up with the news, eh?

If N.I. wants out let them have a referendum with a clear question with a clear majority required for any change in status (not 50% +1).

50% + 1 is a clear majority.

What you want to require is a super majority of, say 55% to 67% (2/3).

I'd call 50% +1 a bare majority. Clear majority and super majority are interchangeable terms AFAIK. Semantics anyway.

Yes I'd expect a super majority.

Protestants in NI living under the rule of 'Rome'?

Ahem...never!

Especially seeing as how 'Rome' in recent times issued a statement basically saying they were 'defects'.

http://www.thebm.com.au/index.php/if-it-isnt-roman-catholic-then-its-not-a-proper-church-pope-tells-christians.html

2007

If it isn’t Roman Catholic then it’s not a proper Church, Pope tells Christians

“The Vatican has described the Protestant and Orthodox faiths as “not proper Churches” in a document issued with the full authority of the Pope.

Anglican leaders reacted with dismay, accusing the Roman Catholic Church of paradoxical behaviour. They said that the new 16-page document outling the “defects” of non-Catholic churches constituted a major obstacle to ecumenism.

The document said that the Orthodox church suffered from a “wound” because it did not recognise the primacy of the Pope. The wound was “still more profound” in Protestant denominations, it added….”

And the pope can kiss my hairy red a$$. [but]

Still, Northern Ireland is properly part of Ireland. If the Scots don't like that then there's a place for them and it's called 'Scotland'.

Eire renounced all claims to Ulster, and as for the Protestants being weak in the south, that isn't true, as the Church of Ireland(Anglican) with only about 8% of Eire's population still has considerable political and financial clout. Most Protestant northerners tend to be Presbyterian, as they are ethnic Scots.

Trouble is, the Protestants who were born in NI, and consider themselves 'British-Irish' want the British Protestant Monarch to rule NI...and don't want to be ruled by 'Dublin-Rome'.

Also, the Catholics who were born in NI, and consider themselves 'Rep Ireland-Irish' want the 'Monarch' in Rome to rule NI...and don't want to be ruled by the British Protestsnt Monarch.

Where's Solomon?

Just fly both flags on Belfast City Hall and tell both sides to live in peace and respect eath other's history and marches.

Me, if I were Britain there's be no way known I'd be giving up NI...given Rome and Ireland's dealings with Nazi Germany, and the safe haven in Ireland that was given Nazi officials after WW2.
