peck420 peck420:
If a pair as bat shit crazy as McCain and Palin were in office, I doubt the US would be quagmired anywhere.

They seem like the types that would be eager to let the US military off the chain...completely off the chain. If that were the case, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Syria would have been weekend trips. It is the 'bleeding hearts' that create the quagmires.

Yep. Stupid laws of unarmed conflict.

The point is that McCain would have had the US quagmired in all those places at the same time. They would have invaded Iran at the same time The Surge Part Twelve was going on in Iraq. With President Obama the US is out of Iraq almost entirely and is winding down in Afghanistan, and they're not making anymore ridiculous pretensions about how a long-term American presence in those idiotic countries will actually make a difference.

Also, President Obama helped make the recession significantly less worse than any GOP president who won in 2008 would have. The GOP, and Mitt Romney wanted, would have let the American auto industry die, resulting in millions additional more unemployed. The only ones the GOP would have bailed out would have been the bankers and the rest of the motherfuckers in the financial sector who caused the entire goddamn disaster in the first place. An austerity-driven agenda, far harsher than what's already happened with far too many IMO layoffs of government workers, would have been brought in by the GOP with the end result in the US being exactly what's been happening in Britain with David Cameron. A stagnant zero-growth economy and a glacial snails-pace in unemployment reductions.

There's lots of things that President Obama could have done and unfortunately hasn't, starting with his refusal not to engage in a mass prosecution of Wall Street bankers and executives. He also should have immediately put a minimum five-year moratorium on all home foreclosures to keep as many people as possible in their houses and to keep the banks from making any profit at all on those crooked mortgages they were selling during the Bush era. There's no question in my mind at all though, whatever flaws or mistakes may have occurred, that electing President Obama prevented a massively worse economic and foreign policy disaster from occurring had John McCain been elected in 2008 or Mitt Romney in 2012. President Obama is no saviour, and no single man ever is, but he certainly prevented things from becoming an absolute disaster had the GOP retained control of the White House.

He also had Osama Bin Laden killed too, which was something the GOP'ers said wasn't even important. Go figure.
