True. But regardless of what most police and soldiers may feel their training will kick in and they'll react the way they've been trained to react.

I experienced drills where we had flash-bang grenades thrown at us while we were sleeping and while some of us were disoriented there were always those certain cool customers who yawned, stretched, laced up their boots, and rolled out of the sack as if it were Sunday morning.

In later years I was present for one of these drills and the guys who were sleeping took down the entry team inside of about 20 seconds. Those guys were just knife-edge sharp.

It always comes down to training and preparation. Those who do the most win.

It always comes down to training and preparation. Those who do the most win eventually.

Fixed. Expecting some middle-aged female school teachers to ever be able to react in the same way that someone who graduated from the Parris Island meatgrinder just doesn't make any sense. This whole thing is being touted as an absolute-guaranteed preventative that'll keep school shootings from happening. It's being pushed that it'll make sure no kids ever die again a la Newtown or Columbine. This is farcical and downright cruel to the parents of those kids and teachers who are absolutely going to die when it happens again, and the only guarantee that anyone should be betting on is that it is absolutely going to happen again.

At this stage trotting out the armed security guard in every school angle would be far more wise. The reality is that no amount of armed guards have actually stopped a maniac from going on a kill mission should be brought up as a point of discussion. On a couple of levels though it at least makes a tiny bit more sense than arming everyone else does.

That's the saddest part of the whole thing, in that the only options being offered are ones that are merely stupid and the ones that are totally moronic.

Well, Bart did say it was cops who would have access to these weapons. So presumably cops are already on guard at these schools. Thing is, they probably don't deploy cops at the nice white schools, which is exactly where the shooters did their thing. Those dastardly blacks and Hispanics may do a lot of shooting, but it's mostly each other or the odd whitey to rob him/her. They don't seem to have this thing for mass killings tho. As far as school or other mass shootings go, whites need to take a look in the mirror, not point fingers at blacks and Hispanics. The latter at least have rational reasons for shooting somebody.

Columbine did have an armed sheriff's deputy on duty at the school. He engaged the two killers with his sidearm but it didn't scare them off one bit. With their mentality they probably thought it was exciting and funny.
