DanSC DanSC: andyt andyt: Apparently many Republicons are threatening to move to Canada after Obama's victory. Boy are they in for a shock. Unlikely. Sure there may be socialized health insurance and gay marriage, but there will be an ocean of familiar-looking White faces. Are you saying they want to come here just because there's a black face in the oval office? Because the knock against Obama seems to be that he he wants to turn the US socialist. If they're leaving because of the latter, boy are they in for a shock.

Canada's one of the most capitalist nations in the world.

DanSC DanSC: As for the socialism, please. Canada's one of the most capitalist nations in the world. It's also a myth that the two are mutually exclusive. One is a system of governance, the other is an economic system.

In the meantime, the federal government will hit its legal debt limit before the end of this year--which means before the new Congress is seated--and that "extraordinary measures" will be needed before then to keep the government fully funded into the early part of 2013. http://www.treasury.gov/press-center/pr ... g1753.aspxThe stock market was down today..

Certainly more socialist than the US, even under comrade Obama. So jumping out of the frying pan into the fire might not work all that well for them. But then rational thinking has not been the hallmark of the American right as of late.

One is a system of governance, the other is an economic system. Crap. Socialism is the state's intervention in the economy. It's absolutely an economic system, which can occur under any system of governance.

redhatmamma redhatmamma: The stock market was down today.. Guess they're still worried that Obama will find his balls and give Wall St. the spanking it so richly deserves and actually prosecute some people. Doubt they have much to worry about.

andyt andyt: Certainly more socialist than the US, even under comrade Obama. Depends on how you measure. The entitlement programs in the USA are definitely larger in magnitude, if not in the percentage of the population served. And the health care mandate is definitely a market solution to creating universal health care coverage, not a socialist one.

Magnitude? Dude? You have 10 times the population. We have a more supportive social safety net, per capita than you do. Where y'all might be more socialist is in subsidies to business, I don't know.
But if it's not racism, what reason would a Republican have for moving to Canada? Higher taxes? Less guns? Single payer health system? They sound as delusional as when Michael Moore said people in Toronto leave their doors unlocked.

Governments always interfere in the economy, whatever system of governance is used.

You mean east like Toronto or Montreal? Pretty multikulti there too, especially Toronto. Go north. Like Nunavut? Have you taken a look at who lives there? WTF are you saying Dan. That the US is all brown people and Canadians are whitebread? What's wrong with you? Having a black president (who's half white) doesn't make the US a black country. Lot's of Mayberrys in the US too.

xerxes xerxes: Yeah. It's not as close as I thought it would be.
Interesting things as well. The first openly lesbian senator has been elected from Wisconsin. Marijuana prohibition is over on Washington state and Colorado. And marriage equality has been passed by popular referendum in a few states as well. America isn't as dysfunctional as we think it is. Not to mention the rape apologist's all got trounced too; http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commenta ... le5034340/
