What might some of those reasons be? What if we're talking about the same make and model from the same dealer on the same day? Surely those two cars are sold at the same price, right?

Nope.....

There are lots of factors that go into the price of a car. Any cash credits? Manufacturer credits? Manufacturer interest credits? Company discounts? Student discounts? Time of year, etc.

If you were to take Jane Smith and Joe Smith buying the same silver Nissan Versa today without any credits, their price would be the same.

There's not much margin in new cars these days, despite what people think. The margin comes with used inventory.

Well, then I stand corrected. I haven't purchased a new vehicle since 2008. I'm extremely pleased to be wrong, knowing now that, over the past 4 years, all the haggling and negotiation has been removed from the car buying process. I'm relieved that the auto industry is no longer frought with price discrimination.

I fail to see how negotiating a price for a vehicle is "price fixing".

Please explain.

We're getting to that. We were dealing with price discrimination first. Remember, I made SEVERAL claims of collusive, consumer-fucking behaviour among car-makers.

Why is the price for the same model higher in Canada than the USA?

The point is that automakers engage in a variety of unethical tactics to fuck consumers. Do try to follow along.

You haven't yet demonstrated anything.

So far, you've tried to claim that negotiating a price lower than MSRP is price fixing.

Anything else?

No, I haven't claimed that. You're putting words in my mouth and your foot in your own. I claimed that automobile companies price discriminate. They extract consumer surplus by selling their cars in what amounts to an auction on each sale.

My argument for price fixing has nothing to do with our discussion of price discrimination. My argument for price fixing comes from, among other places, price differentials between Canada and the USA.

Just out of curiosity, what do you do in the auto-industry? I have to admit, I've always kind of pictured you as a greasy car salesman. :P
