Unsound Unsound:
What he did may have been "right" but it was also illegal.

Wow. I wonder how many Canadian veterans of WW2 should be tried and imprisoned for giving one of their own comrades two ampules of morphine to put them down? Or for doing the same thing to one of their own troops?

Got to stand on the law, right? So let's haul up grandpa put of the retirement home and put his butt in the dock for doing a mercy killing 70 years ago.

Interesting ....people seem to forget that this was a battlefield, where they had just come under intense fire from the enemy, and not a courtroom where days and weeks are taken to deliberate less pressing matters about people's lives. He made a descision in the time he had to do it and got on with more pressing matters, that involved ensuring his own made it home safe and sound.

The battlefield can 't be compared to any other situation except the 'battles' that take place in a hospital room, as pointed out. Doctor's sometimes exercise compassion to terminal patients...sometimes they are caught doing it, and they too pay the price for their actions. But even then, the doctor has more time to consider the action he about to take and plan for it.

No one else can really judge people that make these descisions, until they have been there themselves. Look at how agonizing it is to turn the machines off on a loved onewho has no chance in hell of ever recovering. This usually only happens after weeks and months of heart wrenching deliberation....how long did semrau have?

The battle was over when the decision was made.
