I have one thing to say.
$1:
She said the school's staff are aware of her daughter's condition, but couldn't make an exception.

WHY?

Oh, no, 2.
I read the article YESTERDAY. It has since been "updated". It is removed from the link provided with this topic. I recalled she only found out after they came home so burned that teachers were not allowed to apply sunscreen. So I remembered that wrong. Sue me.

This is what a permission slip for a field trip to the water park and swimming pool that my youngest did last week, says:

"What your student needs to bring: Appropriate clothing for the weather, hat, bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, a hearty lunch and plenty to drink."

…because the stupid mom never signed a permission slip or provided a note that allowed the school to do it. She knew the policy existed and did nothing. The school clearly stated all they needed was permission and she didn’t provide it. Teacher’s can’t even give out aspirin without permission because it’s a drug and they would be liable.

Listen, I’m not dumb. I get what you’re saying. If the story had read “teachers refuse to assist albino child who’s mom provided sunscreen during blistering summer day” I would be all over it. Or if the headline was “Unaware of ridiculous school policy, mom assumes albino child would be given adequate sun protection and not wind up hospitalized” I would also agree.

Essentially this article read “Mom, fully aware of ubiquitous school policy, sends albino child to burn to death during track and field event without so much as asking the school to make an exception to wear a hat or use sunscreen. Later she tries to blame school for her mistake because she feels guilty and is looking for someone else to point the finger at”.

I’ve never considered myself left at all. I like to try and keep an open mind and let the best ideas win. It just so happens that with the current form of US conservatism that the left is generally a lot closer to my viewpoints, but the reality of the situation is almost no ideology truly uses facts, science and proof to make decisions anymore.

In this case the school was put into an impossible situation. And the ginger kids didn’t exactly have a parent or teacher following them around all day that would notice they needed to step in and be responsible because their mom wasn’t. Besides, being “left” doesn’t mean I don’t agree with personal responsibility.
