The carbon tax as a whole was/is the retarded idea....but thanks for the effort. [B-o]

No, what was retarded was my neighbour in Cambridge who obviously "needed" his Ford F-250 to drive the 3/4 of a mile to the Toyota plant where he worked. The dumb shit couldn't even be bothered springing for a tonneau cover to at least cut down on drag.

If some guy wants to spend more of his money to fuel his vehicle truck, why is it your concern?

Hate to burst your bubble, but that's a wonderful myth about the tonneau covers, they do little to nothing for drag or fuel economy.

They did a show on Mythbusters about it...the most economical was a open bed with a mesh tailgate.

It's frustrating when you see BC place get a new retractable roof, but we have a shortage of doctors in Northern BC. I know of atleast two emergency rooms that have locked their doors due to lack of staffing. I pay the same medical premiums as the people in Southern BC.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember in a lot of other areas too. The GVRD is an all consuming monster.

Apparently, that is "the price we pay for living in the boonies". Or so I have been told...

Negative, it's a user tax, and one that I don't have a massive issue raising. You're right, not everyone in their duellies are driving to work, but from what I see, there are a lot of pick ups and SUVs on the roads here for commuting only. Start paying up drivers.

So the dump trucks should pay no more than a guy who drives his Honda Fit twice a week?

They do. If you use more fuel you pay more use tax to support the roads.

If anything, the people who use electric cars and etc. are defrauding the rest of us who are paying for the roads on our own.

Yep. Change for that is coming though.

Here's the thing. A lot of people like myself need a truck for around the acreage. However many people can't afford to have a truck and a car. I was reluctantly forced to purchase a small car a couple of weeks ago because I just couldn't afford the 60km daily commute in my truck. However I still need that truck so now I must keep insurance on both and maintain both because my government thinks I should take transit to the middle of buttfuck nowhere BC. Fuck you Gordon Campbell.

Obviously it's cheaper for you to insure two vehicles than it is for you to commute in your truck.

I'm not seeing the issue here.

I don't want two vehicles. I don't want two insurance payments per month. I don't want two car loans per month. Now granted it's not all the governments fault, they don't set the price of oil. What I want is a fair price for the gasoline I use, and if, and I mean IF, the government wants us to change our habits by taxing us then give us a realistic alternative. I could convert my truck to propane or ng for about 7000. Which is better for the environment. But guess what? carbon tax. Campbell essentially said screw you, figure out how to get by on your own.

And the only reason I can afford two vehicles is because I make a good wage. The only thing I can take some solace in, is when all these city slickers who think gas should be 2.00 per liter are scrounging to try and buy groceries at Walmart. I'll be growing all my own food on my acreage for a lot less. So the next time some ass tells me he loves to see the price of gas go up, I'll remind him that soon he'll be able to fit in his skinny jeans.

I quite understand. Toronto has the CN Tower, Air Canada Centre, Metro Convention Centre. Royal Ontario Museum, Rosedale etc while everyone else, esp in the north, go without. Not only that but their own city is falling apart. They are running about 1300 water main breaks a year and have droves of high rise apartments that were built in the 50's and 60's.

Anyhow I don't know that much about Vancouver (though I am learning) but as I read the thread it seems like the same play only with the players wearing different costumes.

One advantage you may have is that the Capital is in Victoria rather than in Vancouver. Having ON's Capital in Toronto is of dubious value to any one as far as I can see.

I agree it is a user tax, but so is the provincial fuel tax. All purchasers of gasoline in BC pay 14.5 cents/L of provincial tax, 10 cents of federal excise tax and 5.56 cents of carbon tax plus GST on the fuel and the taxes. For illustration purposes let's round the GST off to a flat 6 cents per litre. So the total tax in Kamloops is 36.06 cents per litre.

In the GVRD people have the priviledge of paying an additional 11 cents/L tax to support the municipalities. (over 47 cents per litre of tax including GST)

Instead of a single fuel tax as in most regions BC has developed 3 taxes with the associated administrative bureaucracies to burn up the tax dollars. The original fuel tax is a user pay system, so two new user pay taxes on the same litre of gas seems overkill.

The provincial tax used to be 11.5 cents per litre, but as the funds went to general revenue, BC was not diligent about utilizing the total revenue on infrastructure maintenance. One of the consequences of not using the fuel tax to pay for the infrastructure was the poor state of the roads. A few years ago the provincial fuel tax was raised 3 cents to 14.5 with the increase being dedicated to fund infrastructure improvements. Or at least that was the statement at the time. Now with the three levels of fuel tax BC enjoys having the highest motor fuel taxes in Canada. (Yukon is the lowest)
