Wow, took longer than I thought.

Yep, that's what we need. A bunch of pols crowding in for photo ops getting in the way of the people dealing with the situation.

Apparently the PM has shown a bit of common sense and decided to stay the fuck away till everything dies down.

$1:
Trudeau to visit Fort McMurray soon

TORONTO — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is looking forward to visiting the northern Alberta community of Fort McMurray where a raging wildfire has forced tens of thousands to leave their homes.

He says the visit will have to wait for several weeks because it is not "particularly helpful" for a prime minister to show up while firefighters are busy trying to contain the fire.

Trudeau says the best thing he can do right now is make sure that the Alberta government and emergency authorities receive everything that they need to deal with the situation.

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/65423 ... rray-soon/

As for the last part, we'll have to wait and see.

And then there's this bs.

There's also this.

Im surprised he hasn't made his way to ft mac, having selfies with a burning city in the back ground really helps his international image.

Kind of odd having a PM who sometimes seems to have the same personality and world-awareness as a 16 year-old girl. :|

ROFL. People want someone standing by in the event of a once (now twice) in a lifetime disaster, but no one wants to pay the taxes needed to train everyone and keep everyone on standby.

How about a phone call to Edmonton Garrison,

hello do you people know anything about roadside refueling ?

Actually there was live fire training at Wainwright last week involving 3500 personal maybe it's still on going. Either way im sure there's still a few there packing up this week and could have been on highway 63 to meet the start of the traffic fleeing Ft Mac. with in a couple of hours.

Probably can't make that call until a state of emergency has been declared.

And that's why I believe that in the event of a serious emergency the only one responsible for my safety and that of my property is me.

By the time the army is called out to fight a fire they, or no other human are trained to fight, my home would already be ash. So, let it burn and let insurance take care of it. That's what insurance is for. All the things I really need were in my bug bag anyhow.

And that's also why people took the initiative to buy their own fuel and water and food and distribute it themselves. Like Rex Murphy said in the video from earlier, it's what Albertans do! We don't wait for some authority to get off their asses to help us, we help ourselves and others in our community in need.

That can make a huge difference in evacuating because it can give you a piece of mind if that's even possible. The Government has also asked people avoid the use of recreational vehicles this weekend for obvious reasons.

On Twitter someone asked "Can't the Government use ice-nine to put the wildfires out?" 8O

Yea, a recreational vehicle ban just makes sense with a provincial fire ban.

And there isn't enough ice-nine in the western hemisphere to fight this fire. Even if it could be dropped by planes. That's a facepalm worthy suggestion if I ever saw one.

Oil and gas companies are stepping up big time by continuing to pay people till the next pay cycle, and some are giving $2500 on top of that for disaster expenses. After that, I doubt the goodwill will continue.

But people were losing their shit a couple weeks ago over a $10b defect. Now they are losing their shit because it's not $20B or $30B?

How about Brian Jean and his fear mongering over the cuts to the wild fire budget, now he's sleeping in a tent.

No changes to the budget from this year, or from last to be honest, would have made much of a difference.

Also, it's not like the money isn't there, it has just be moved from Fire to Emergency.

He was one of the ones losing his shit over the deficit. It would now seem hypocritical of him to be losing his shit that the deficit wasn't higher so that he didn't lose his home. It sucks to lose a home, but I'm sure he's insured, and everyone made it out OK.

It's just stuff.

I have stuff that is completely irreplaceable.

Would not want to lose it like these people have.

One exemption is for first nations using ATV for traditional purposes. ROTFL "Elders tell us how the Great Spirit gave us the first Yamaha, but then foretold that the white man would come across the water to give us gasoline for it."

Heard it on the radio, must be true. Since farmers etc are still allowed to use them, so should FNs doing the same thing. I just find the term "traditional use for ATV" to be a bit funny.

So if one of these FN's accidentally start a fire it's the white man's fault. Traditional ATV needs gasoline.
