We live in a consumption society. Buy, spend, throw away, produce in a never ending spiral. Economic growth is measured in a nations GDP which in turn is measured in goods and services produced in the country.

It's naive to think that man will always find a solution or a substitute for a resource that's gone bust. Our way of living is just not sustainable. Period.

Sure, in the near future we could expect our economies to grow, but the this economic system is fundamentally flawed and we can expect that this system will face a lot of hardship much sooner than expected as for example countries like Saudi Arabia are not sitting on the amounts of oil that they claim. Peak oil was reached a long time ago.

That is exactly why we need the market to let go instead of planning the economy.

Think of it as something like how Willy Wonka flippantly tells the children in his factory to keep acting like the petulent brats they are. They ultimately all meet horrible ends because of their own bad behaviour.

I didn't write it because I advocate doing it. I wrote it as a matter of pointing out the intellectual inadequacies of the willfully ignorant. Attempt to talk to any bigot about any subject in a rational manner, and that is the response you can expect: belittling and dehumanisation of that which it does not understand.

Any private ownership? Or some private ownership, or a mixed economy? Complete private ownership? That question needs to be more clearly stated. So on one end of this scale, I couldn't own the kleenex I blow my nose with and on the other end, someone owns everything, including the street I drive to work on? What do you mean?

O.K. We already have, for the most part, property rights. These can be overturned for a number of reasons. Neither of us is allowed to own smallpox virus, but there seems to be no limit on how many pairs of shoes we can own. If I own a piece of property, I don't own the mineral rights nor can I stop the progress of a new highway passing across that property. We have property rights, with restrictions.
