Coach85 Coach85: martin14 martin14: Coach85 Coach85: It appears that you fully support the steps Trump has taken? Nope, not at all. But Trump has been telegraphing this since the election campaign, so at some point it has to be dealt with. PM Selfie has been wrong footed about the whole mess since before Trump was elected. How so? This whole “mess” is due to Trump yet you place no blame with him. How has Trudeau been “wrong footed”? Be specific. http://theconversation.com/rebooting-ca ... tegy-89746. Gender virtue signaling and Mexican minimum wage are not the solutions.

It may be a terrible idea, and I'm sure there are many terrible ideas such as a sunset clause. You think that warrants Trump using 232 to invoke these tariffs? And FYI, On the topic of wages, it was already an addendum to the original agreement. The ask was to make it part of the agreement as an official chapter.

In other news Trump announced 25% tariffs on a slew of Chinese imports and the Chinese already responded with corresponding increases of their own.
On the radio on my way in to work this morning some Congresscritter says that revoking China's permanent normal trade relations status is on the table for discussion and that it can take place even before Congress breaks for the 4th of July holiday.
And that, my friends, is the real trade issue for America. Hate to say, but this drama over NAFTA was a warning to China that Trump is serious.
Now I wonder if China will repeat their mistake of dumping US Treasuries on the world market to punish the USA. The last time they did that they dumped 10% of their holdings and sent their economy into a tailspin as the remaining 90% lost a huge amount of value.

Gotta side with Martin on this, Virtue Signalling was an idiotic idea. We could have asked for things that would actually benefit Canadian's and they pissed it away with the virtue signaling.

Now that Trump has declared his war... mayhaps we can resolve this disagreement like adults.

You think asking for one Chapter with respect to Gender & Trade Rights (giving women the same legal rights as they do men when it comes to doing business) is cause for invoking 232 and the tariffs? The other stuff was already there...this being the only new Chapter proposed.

You really should try to stop putting words into other people's mouths, you are really bad at it. I said right at the beginning, we are not the real target here. China and Mexico are.

Which is why it’s all the more baffling why Trump is picking a fight with the US’ closest trading partners at the same time. Partners who could also join in the effort to bring China to heel in this regard.

I listed all the Canadian proposed chapters elsewhere....

There really hasn't been much news about the tariffs in the Euro papers, they have far bigger problems.

Wal Mart and etc. taking it up the ass won't bother me a bit. Ask anyone around here, I've long hated that fucking company and I've long avoided buying cheap Chinese-made crap from anyone. If China wants to impose a trade embargo on the USA I'd happily embrace it.

Partners who could also join in the effort to bring China to heel in this regard. Part of what was at stake in the NAFTA talks was stopping Canada and Mexico from receiving Chinese-made goods and then retagging them as Canadian/Mexican assembled and importing them to the US under NAFTA. I mean no offense here when I say that NAFTA has been abused to enable China to get around US import quotas and both Canada and Mexico were complicit in the arrangement. Thus NAFTA for the US is not separate from Chinese trade issues, it's a facet of them.

I was a question, Martin. We ARE the target here. These tariffs have been imposed. So I'll ask you again, do you support Trump using 232 to impose tariffs on Canada?
