Also given the fact they had to ram through the bathroom wall with an armoured vehicle and reports indicated people had run to hide in the bathroom, I wonder if we're going to see some casualties there as well.
I don't know enough about the event to really say.
But it is pretty conclusive that Mateen was trained by the Taliban because of their signature in his behavior:

Law enforcement sources said that during the three-hour attack on the nightclub early Sunday morning, Mateen used 30-round-capacity clips in the rifle, at least some of which were configured with two magazines taped together to allow the shooter to reload more quickly.
Anyone trained in the US learns NOT to do this because the taped-together mags often get bent and jam when flipped around.
If he had three such configurations then he would have had 120 rounds quickly available.
The problem is carrying them and then getting to them quickly when he needs to reload.
Also, there was no mention that he bought so many magazines at the gun store where he got the Ar-15. He may have purchased them separately and if he went to more than one store then no one would notice that.
