Because he needs anything he can grasp to use as a distraction from the reality that, as a loyal Trump cultist, he's willingly sold himself to one of the most dangerous, immoral, and outright evil personalities of the last hundred years. Give it a few more years, and the inevitable collapse/comprehensive moral disgrace, and these ones will be desperately saying they weren't fans of Trump in the same way there was a surprisingly large number of Germans at the end of May 1945 who kept saying "we had nothing to do with that Hitler guy" to anyone they thought would listen. The current CKA MAGAs will definitely be among that kind of crowd. It's just a matter of time for all cowards of this ilk.

Coach85 Coach85: It appears that you fully support the steps Trump has taken? Nope, not at all. But Trump has been telegraphing this since the election campaign, so at some point it has to be dealt with. PM Selfie has been wrong footed about the whole mess since before Trump was elected.

It'll be kind of ironic if President Trump ends up fueling a resurgence of Canadian nationalism and Canadian identity politics and Lil' Potato ends up benefiting from it! Trump is completely off of his head and similar effcts are happening all over the globe.
