Tricks Tricks: I was trying to find it's results on the Nurburgring, but I decided to settle for Top gear. What were the 2 domestics on C/D's list? The Vette and CTS-V. The reality is that the Nissan GT-R is a pretty impressive piece of engineering and it's relatively inexpensive. And this is stock, not aftermarket tuned like your buddy keeps quoting.

PluggyRug PluggyRug: Mustang1 Mustang1: You're right (and ignore is AFTER market tuner spec Vettes too.). In fact, The GT-R (with AWD and Motor Trend's Car of the Year) is one of the fastest laps at the Nurburing (the quickest still belongs to a Posche996) and wait till the GT-R Spec V arrives.
Correct.. domestic 'vettes have not yet learned about high speed cornering. GM will one day discover the art of suspension without leaf springs. WRONG - The ZO6 Corvette that GM sells at your local Chevy dealership is one of the best handling cars out there... Look at the g force ratings I posted for the Z06 and the GT-R from Fast-autos... Vette's lateral acceleration 1.02g, GT-R's - 1.01g

Vette's lateral acceleration 1.02g, GT-R's - 1.01g My dream car would be a 1965 Ford Shelby Cobra...or an original Ford GT40... Matter of fact at a car show about 3 years ago at the Canadian Tire in Clayton Park an original GT40 was there... I spoke with the owner and he also owns two Vipers, a Ferrari, tuned Infinitys and has owned Corvettes and Porsches..He claims nothing handles as well as that 40 year old GT40...Not even the Ferraris, Vipers or Porsches he's owned... Of course that is his opinion!!! But how can I argue against someone who owns those many cars and has driven them... If memory is correct all of his cars were black... I should have photos of his cars and will post 'em...

Face it, Japan has you beat.

Streaker Streaker: Tricks Tricks: Streaker Streaker: Consider a JDM car and you could get that Supra for a whole lot less than thirty grand. Of course, you'd have to get used to right hand drive. I wouldn't mind that actually. I've kicked the idea around a little. I wouldn't mind an early nineties Nissan 300ZX. Oh yeah, a Twin turbo would be sweet!

Tricks Tricks: I've done enough with cars to have a basic knowledge. Taking apart a car doesn't make you knowledgeable of what makes a car decent. Or give you any expertise on a cars performance. It makes you a mechanic. Someone who builds their own computers, installs the os and does their own upgrades knows much more about computers then the person who buys his HP or Compaq computer at Staples, Futureshop, Bestbuy or Circuit City... Same thing about cars... A mechanic knows what cars are dependable, what cars parts are expensive, what's wrong with certain models... Nice attempt at twisting my words around....

And one can read extensive industry analysis from a myriad of mechanics, owners, dealers, engineers and enthusiasts that gives a pretty good picture of a vehicle/company's dependability, performance and quality. Whether its C/D, AutoTrend, J.D. Powers or Consumer Reports, Japanese cars routinely score better than their North American counterparts. And i don't care what the dude at the Muffler Man says.

For the most part Road & Track, Car & Driver and Motor Trend reviews are useless... The company that spends the more bucks advertising in the publication will get a more favorable review... I'll stick to the opinions of mechanics and auto enthusiasts I know & trust...

mtbr mtbr: same car both have Toyota quality. but I wonder what Stemmer thinks about GM partnering with and sending profits to JAPAN Look at it this way, IF the Big Three hadn't gone over and helped Japan's auto industry after WWII, the automotive world in NA would be a much better place... Ever noticed, when the profits of the Big Three were up, the standard of living for the middle class was much better... Now their profits are down and so is our standard of living... Now Maurice Strong and the lackeys of the Power Corp are selling us out to China... Now go celebrate the Make Me Laughs win over the Penguins...and leave the car talk to the men....

I defy you to find a magazine, web site, car enthusiast, mechanic, or random on the street that says the GT-R can't compete with anything under 100 grand and most things over it.
