I remember one day in elementary school we had a cultural day in the gym. I don't remember how many cultures we learned about but I do remember that at one booth we were taught how to wear a turban. No one had a problem with it. However at the time I was being raised as a Christian child and I went to church every Sunday. Imagine if my Mom had gone to the school and complained that her Christian son was being taught things that were against his religion. Imagine the cries of racism if my Mom demanded they discontinue these cultural fairs.

I also remember an occasion in high school when we had native dancers come to school and dance during an assembly, we even took part later on. Now imagine once again if Christian parents started complaining because these dances happened to be dances that honoured the spirit of the crow or something along that lines.

People need to stop bitching and start co-operating.

Not only that, but in what religion does it state you aren't allowed to hear the national anthem? What religion states that you are damn yourself to hell if you hear a national anthem?

Exactly.

I'd like to know how the hell that, of all songs, 'O Canada' is somehow some
offencive Satan-worshipping war-mongering song that will drive children away
from their other beliefs.

When I find, I'm going to whatever house of prayer they have and blaring our national anthem with a stereo.

Jesus Christ.

I'm glad I went to much of my Elementary in Manitoba. They still do it a lot for at least Elementary over there.

C, we rarely, if ever, agree. But in this case we do. Taking out the National anthem as a daily routine is just one step towards it being phased out entirely. Time to put on our fucking skirts, cause we are turning into Europe and giving into every little demand of some jack off who doesn't like how we currently do things.

The anthem wasn't played in my elementary school in the 70s. It's a long way from being phased out entirely, never mind "one step".

In answer to your earlier question.... I was talking about elementary school.

Are you shitting me? Was this in BC too?

RUEZ RUEZ:
It's not relevant to the original discussion. You and Lily both claimed the anthem isn't played daily. Who cares? It's not about that. It's about a fringe group imposing their beliefs and ending a tradition.

It's relevant. People are complaining about traditions, yet it's not a tradition everywhere. So it ended at this one school.... does it really matter? Is the anthem truly in danger of being phased out entirely?

I asked mtbr this earlier.... if it's about traditions... how would people feel if our traditions were "forced" to end, and the anthem was mandatory in all of our schools?

Or do we only care about tradition in certain circumstances?

It's not relevant at all Lily. The point of the matter is that TWO PARENTS out of let's say 500 that have children therr forced their beliefs on the rest and had a tradition banned because of it. It would be different if all the parents got together and said let's cancel it because no one is interested, but it wasn't all the parents it was two. TWO PEOPLE took something away from the rest of them. Whether it would have been phased out eventually or not or even if no one in the rest of the world sings o Canada every day is not relevant at all to the heart of the matter.

That's sad. I've always thought of BC as one of the best, if not the best province. But if that's true, then I might have to rethink that.

Remembrance Day is a stat in B.C.

Ontario?

I don't know if I want it to be a stat. Considering the abysmal display of respect that was shown by my school this past Nov 11, I doubt any of them would do anything whatsoever. Even if I have class, I don't go so that I can go to a cenotaph.

I wouldn't mind, lol. It'd be an honour.

I'd probably get off on insanity after the crime was looked over anyway. LOL.

Nope. It's not easy to get off by reason of insanity.

lily lily:

And yes, I know that's not what it's about, but you don't seem to get on anyone else's case when they talk about traditions and all.

How the hell do you know who's case I get on? WTF, do all you liberals use this line?

And who really cares, anyway? As has been pointed out repeatedly.... we didn't sing it daily and it didn't affect us negatively.

You sure it didnt affect you negatively, Lily ?

Yup.

Why would you ask?

Because you seem to be one of only a few who dont mind Millet's choices.
I wonder if your opinion would be different if you had been raised differently.
