Thanos Thanos:
BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Grizzly bears have been extinct in California for well over a century and we don't miss them at all. We've also done just fine without any fucking wolves, thank you very much.

And that attitude, children, towards the other creatures on this planet is why there is absolutely no ethical or moral hope or future left for the human race. For all the art, architecture, and fancy words, all we will ever be are eaters, consumers, destroyers, ravagers, poisoners, and shit-dispensers. If god exists then we're it's absolute worst and most vile mistake.

So back in 1991 the brilliant and sensitive voters of California banned the hunting of mountain lions because we all know what cuddly creatures they are, right?

Prior to 1986 it had been over eighty years since a mountain lion attacked anyone in California. Since 1991 we've had thirteen confirmed mountain lion attacks with three of them being immediately fatal and two more of them the victims died years later with their deaths attributed to injuries received in the attacks.

Now we're talking about bringing back the lion hunting because too many people are running into too many lions.

If we had wolves and grizzly bears we'd probably have to worry about them, too.

By the way, Thanos, I put the lives of decent people ahead of many concerns be they lions, wolves, bears, progholes, or moslems.

Thanos Thanos:
I like Bart as a person but as far as some/too many of his ideas/beliefs go, well...

Look, a little perspective here: I've killed people to protect other people. The notion of killing a lion/grizzly bear/wolf to protect people is then readily acceptable to me.

What bothers me more is the mindset that the lives of people are somehow dispensable in the face of some environmental concern.

To me there is no acceptable number of human casualties in the face of protecting some predator be it human or animal.

If it makes you feel any better I'd be willing to pull a trigger to protect you.

Truth be told, there are now others for whom I'd [cheer] the bear/lion/wolf.

I'd like to think there's a difference between killing ones that are an immediate threat and a wholesale extermination couched behind some BS claim to safety. Kind of a happy medium somewhere for those who still want to bother to find one instead of resorting to the usual unnecessary and brutal extremes. Neither of which has to do with what the dentist/poacher did in Africa anyway.

The last time you found rats, mice, ants, termites, or cockroaches in your house did you opt for a happy medium or did you go with wholesale extermination?

Not comparable at all to what murder-dentist did and you know it. You're being difficult on purpose with this, and that's all you're doing.

No, I'm noting that for the people in Zimbabwe they're not terribly fond of the lions who eat their relatives every now and then.

I'm personally quite happy that I can safely go hiking in the beautiful Desolation Wilderness or Yosemite Park because the good people of 100 years ago wiped out the wolves and grizzly bears who had, up to that point, made these places ridiculously dangerous.

We could feed the mountain lions Andy (anjum) Chaudry or would that be considered cruelty to animals?

And what would your response be if a grizz were to wander into an elementary school in Ottawa? You'd let the kids out to play with the lovable old boy, right?

Of course not.

And you'd shit yourself if you came face-to-face with one of them. So would I.

Which is why I'm happy that no such creatures are to be found in places frequented by children, joggers, or me.

FFS....have you taken a vacation from reality?? The reason there has been trouble with wildlife in Californication is that humans continue to encroach on their rapidly dwindling ranges. I live in an area where seeing bears, wolverines and wolves is very common, yet there haven't been any killings. We go to the dump and there can be as many as a dozen bears feeding just a few feet away.....we ignore them and they ignore us.

Then you're suggesting that we impose a total embargo on immigration? Because absent immigration we don't need all the new building that's been going on.

And that's not going to happen so people need to be somewhere and if that somewhere has nasty critters then the nasty critters lose.

That's why national parks were created, in order so that the animals wouldn't have to be on the run all the time because human development was deemed to be less of a priority as opposed to the obligation to provide wildlife a safe place to live. Yes, take it seriously when a bear wanders into a residential area and kills a couple of dogs. No, don't go on an extermination campaign when a human hiker or camper goes into a area dedicated to wildlife protection and has a run-in with a cougar.
