Admittedly true. I never learned how to deal with the aggressive and chronically angry types very well. Kind of send me into panic mode when I encounter them in real life actually, I'm sorry to say. Cowardice? Or hypersensitive flight-over-fight reaction? Never figured out why God wanted to create people like that in the first place or exactly what purpose they serve other than to give the rest of us an example of how not to behave. But who am I to question the grand plan anyway if the Big Guy wants to keep the reptile brain as boss for the next thousand millenia or so?
Beckian? Nice schtick by the way even if it is horribly out of date. And completely wrong too.

Thanos Thanos: Didn't you make up a thread recently where you said you'd try harder not to be such a cranky ol' grouch? Guess it didn't take to you, eh? A leopard cannot change its spots. As far as I'm concerned reaching forty allows one a certain level of low-level grumpiness. It's a statisical correlation between grumpiness and longevity, so here's wishing Gunny a long life.

Only difference is now he has a cane, and he knows how to use it.

You should read your own posts before further bitching about chronic grumpiness or one note ideologues in future. Your Beckian rants are comical at times, I am happy to admit I even enjoy them on occasion, but don't for a second think it's also not a one trick pony.

Most of the time, when I'm not behaving like Glenn Beck, all I feel like doing is weeping. Where did it all go wrong?

Zipperfish Zipperfish: Unsound Unsound: Not quite sure I see the connection between a spider web and the labour intensive raising of cucumbers and tomotoes without any of the advantages of the last century's technology advances. Oh, you meant "organic produce." I thought you meant "organic" in general. My bad. Take a look at the movie Food Inc some timme. You may comme to appreciate a little inefficiency. I have a pretty clear picture of where my food comes from. I don't always like it, and I generally try not to think too deeply about it, but I don't have any illusions there. I would love for more food to be a little closer to organic, meat especially. Full fledged organic, however, is simply impractical. Fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation, genetic modification, trucking things from where they grow well to where they're wanted... these are all good things. The planet couldn't support the number of people on it if everything had to be grown "organically". As well, the sheer amount of labour needed to mass produce "organic" foods is mind boggling. And the beareaucracy and regulation needed for "certified organic"... ridiculous.

Well I would hesitate to call any one of those things an unmitigated good. The Law of Unintended Consequence can apply to any one of those. As well, the food industry seems to go out of its way to not provide consumers information on their products--perfectly understandable because some of it isn't pretty. You don't have to buy certified organic. One place I go to just has a little sticker next to, say, the turkey that explains how the turkeys are raised and slaughtered. Even an invite for tour. And frankly, maybe we could use a little bit more labour intensive work these days. We're all getting fat and shipping all the jobs that requrie any labour to China, which is creating problems. The encouraging thing is that, at least in Vancouver, people have shown they are willing to pay extra for sustainable products, even if the gummint is clueless.

Gunnair Gunnair: Dog fights could support an industry, however. Examples? I know dog fights are prolific in other cultures but as to them having state sanction is a whole other thing. The only thing I can think that comes close would be the running of the bulls and that is more or less tolerated because of historical precedent more then anything, not an industry sanction.

Ya organic is scam, eating food pumped full of synthetic hormones, pharmaceuticals and petro-chemicals clearly has no impact on humans, it's ridiculous to think otherwise! The massive and unprecedented spike in food allergies, diabetes and obesity in recent years are just god's punishment because we stopped stoning the gays and heathens. Oh, and the sudden explosion in 12-year old girls with DD chests and 20-year old males with the sperm count of an Egyptian mummy is just a coincedence too.

How about the gambling industry for starters...

I suppose. I didn't see that last time I was in Vegas for some odd reason.
