Wait - I thought humans came from Africa, so except for residents of the Olduvai Gorge we're all immigrants.

The problem is that we now have multiculturalism effectively promoting the continuation of these enclaves and translators for all the immigrants who don't speak our languages, even tho we're assured immigrants need to speak them to get into the country. Didn't used to have that - immigrants learned English/French or were basically fucked. This is one area where I give the Harperites props for at least trying to reversed course a bit.

Exactly, this argument that only Aboriginals are really Canadian is bollocks.

If you are born here you are a Canadian.

If you are an immigrant you are just that. And Canada makes it very easy for any immigrant to get citizenship. They even gave it to me.

I have also started an ethnic enclave. Just the one house on my street so far (me) but I'm advertising free spuds and a non-stop Coronation Street marathon for interested Limey types and Paddies.

Ethnic enclaves = failed immigration policy

We have successfully imported millions of people who don’t want to join in with the rest of us.

Concur. It's time for us as a whole to admit what some European countries already has: Multiculturalism is a massive failure.

:? Doesn't having ethnic enclaves mean that Multiculturalism is a success?
i.e. Different worlds coexisting.

It's the host cultures that are the failure.

Quite the contrary. It means that we believed that everyone we let come here would integrate with and become a part of Canadian society. We were wrong.

Did you read the article?

It clearly stated that 2nd gen members and older of the enclaves were leaving after using the for community support to new people. Once the new people have integrated, they move on.

It is not reasonable to believe people can come from a different country and climate, speak a different language etc and just fit in. Enclaves are great as a stepping stone. Even immigrants who live outside the enclave use them as a sort of cultural home base.

Mainly,I think, because second generation types gain the language and cultural skills to make the leap.

In any case if our birth rate were higher we would not need any immigration.

I like it better this way though because I love the food. :D

The natives here came from Japan. I deduced this, as they use their last name first. Matter of fact they introduce themselves constantly. I've met most of one family
Yagata Dollar
Yagata Ride
Yagata Smoke
Yagata Toonie
Met some Haywighties too. Haven't figured out where they came from.
